From an Associated Press dispatch last Monday:
"The American singer and activist Harry Belafonte called President George W. Bush the greatest terrorist in the world' yesterday and said millions of Americans support the socialist revolution of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez."
The report noted that "Belafonte led a delegation of Americans, including the actor Danny Glover and the Princeton University scholar Cornel West, that met with the Venezuelan president for more than six hours late Saturday." At the meeting, Belafonte referred to the U.S. President as the "greatest tyrant in the world."
Chavez is viewed in Venezuela as an enemy of the middle class, who have tried to remove him from office by coup and election and failed each time. Many view his authoritarianism as akin to that of the late Juan Peron of Argentina. Chavez actively supports the governments of Iran, North Korea and Cuba, and he has made it clear that he is extremely hostile toward the U.S. government and particularly toward President George W. Bush. He has said: "Iran and Venezuela, these two brothers, are and will be together forever. Iran, confronted by the United States, has our solidarity."
Belafonte has every right to support Chavez. He also has every right to denounce and demean President Bush. But our country is currently at war with international terrorism, and self-restraint is in order. Belafonte and other critics of the president and U.S. policy have obligations as U.S. citizens receiving its

"When Will Democrats Ever Learn?"
The gift that keeps on giving.
Never. And sadly they will be in power again someday. Hopefully later rather than sooner.
Oxymoron.
Never
"Will Democrats ever Learn".
Gee, I certainly hope not.
Thanks for the post.
The Party of Treason, the Democrat Party.
Never, I hope!
PLEASE let them keep on dragging out the likes of Harry Belafonte ("Hey, Harry, recorded anything lately?"), "Calypso Louie" Farrakhan, and yes, Ray "Chocolate Town" Nagin!
Maybe they are checking out Venezuela for the large African-American population clamoring to move there.
Liberal Wackos are what they are!
The left seeks chaos. It's the standard plan for a minority leftist ideology (the Bolsheviks, the National Socialists, Castro, Mao) to gain power. Once there is chaos, the left will rush into the vaccuum to gain control, consolidate power, and the implement their plans. It makes enormous sense, politically, for the left - including the Democrats - to support the stated enemies of the United States. Hopefully, enough dissent can be create internally and enough pressure externally for the government to be overwhelmed and for things to fall apart. When the time is ripe, a coordinated effort by an organized minority can gain control. Gather together Chavez, China, Cuba, Islamofascists, European leftists, and American liberals, each of them doing what they can to undermine and reduce American power, and maybe they can slowly erode the country until it is "ripe for the picking," so to speak.
The question is not, "Will the Democrats ever learn?" The real question is, "Will the Democrats ever give up trying?"
much, much, MUCH later!;)
The question I have is why a rational member of the MSM doesn't put it to people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to repudiate Belafonte's remarks?
Wait...wait...there are all sorts of problems with that, foremost being the concept that there might be a rational member of the MSM. I take it all back. Ignore this post.
bttt
They even have a term for this strategy: destabilization.
Time after time, the Democrats sell themselves out to communists and socialists, telling us how wrong we are and how right they are, all the time screaming about how "dissent is patriotic."
The only thing they have left is "sedition is patriotic," but patriotic to whom?
I think that answer is clear.
I caught the video of the princeton prof. on hannity 2 nights ago. these people are complete idiots
