Interesting development where I live in Indiana.

We have had an influx of Latinos from Mexico, and we have hired them at our plant. They are generally very good employees. We have been trying to hire each month what we think we will need and train them. We recently decided that one month we will commit to either hiring all English or all Spanish speaking employees so as not to stretch our training resources by having to run two separate language orientations each month. This month, we have doing our second consecutive English speaking orientation because the temporary agency we use says they will not be able to staff our needs with all Spanish speaking employees. This is highly unusual and she says it's because the pool is down due to 'legal' issues. So, it looks like companies are seeing that they are going to be fined if they hire illegals.

Hot air. They desperately want the illusion that they're actually doing something while millions pour across the border.

It makes sense to end these special immigration exceptions.
However, the USA really should be creative in helping El Salvador, which has been exceptionally cooperative/supportive of the USA on a whole range of issues. This at a time when South American contries are falling like dominoes to socialist Chavez loving governments. Maybe some additional new trade benefits like we give Poland or Australia?

The Department of Homeland Security wants to end the special immigration status that has allowed some 300,000 illegal Salvadoran, Honduran and Nicaraguan migrants to remain in this country, many of them in Florida, Bush administration officials say.

If they did that it would be a first. There's nothing been more permanent than someone here temporarily.
