Make up of the 13 federal appellate courts.

There are currently 15 vacancies on the 11 numbered appellate courts plus the DC Circuit and the Federal Circuit. There are no vacancies on the First, Second, Seventh, Eighth, Eleventh, and Federal circuits. The Ninth has 4 vacancies, the DC circuit has 3, and with Judge Alito's promotion the 3rd circuit has 3.

Of the 179 active judge positions, 60 have been appointed by Bill Clinton(33%). GW Bush has appointed 22%(39), Reagan 17%(30), GHW Bush 16%(28), Carter 3%(6), Nixon 0.5%(1). 8%(15) of the seats are vacant, with 3 nominations pending(Saad, Myers, and Kavanaugh).

The 2nd, 3rd, and the 9th have majority Democrat appointees.

There are 41 judges who are eligible for senior status. Most of the vacancies are coming from retiring Reagan and some GHW Bush judges. Of Bill Clinton's appointees, 2 have assumed senior status, 1 has retired, and 2 only two are eligible for senior status.

GW Bush has had two confirmed appointees leave the appellate bench. Michael Chertoff became head of the Dept. of Homeland Security. John Roberts became Chief Justice of the United States.

Hopefully, we can increase the vacancy percentage rate of the ninth to somewhere around 100%.

Before the mid-term elections draw close, the Republicans in the Senate should get all the pending nominations through and also ram the nominations for the rest of the vancacies.

About time!
