Alito Confirmation Another Setback for Bush
Scrapple Face ^ | 1/14/06 | Scott Ott

With confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito as the next Supreme Court justice all but assured, Democrats seized upon this "most recent failure of the Bush administration" as a likely springboard for their party' s electoral triumph in November.

This latest setback for President George Bush - coming on the heels of free and fair elections in Iraq, a growing economy, the first December budget surplus since 2002 and movement by Europe and Russia toward the original White House position on dealing with Iran's nuclear ambitions - sets the stage for a Democrat return to power in Congress this year, according to many leading party insiders.

"We've got him on the ropes," said one unnamed Democrat political strategist. "Alito's confirmation could be the knockout punch. When Bush is flat on his back like this, it's hard for Republican Congressional candidates to ride his coattails."

A celebratory mood prevails from Democrat offices on Capitol Hill, to DNC headquarters, to MoveOn.org and The New York Times. Several political action groups said they would immediately launch multi-million dollar TV ad campaigns to capitalize on their political momentum.

"It's the triumph of our progressive principles and ideals," the source said. "We've got a beautiful feeling, everything's going our way."

Yeah, but the problem is that the MSM is playing up all of Bush's negatives all the time and that's what most people see and hear.

Yes, the battle between good (the new media) & evil (the LSM) continues...I like our odds...

Why don't you rush out to get a copy of the book by presidents Mondale, Dukakis, Gore and Kerry. It goes into great detail about how effective the media was in getting them elected.

The top 3 Conservative Talk Radio hosts draw a larger weekly audience then then the alphabet networks nightly broadcast news shows. The era of the Junk Media dominating coverage is over. Simply amazing me how many "Conservatives" continually quake in abject fear about the Junk Media. There is a vast and growing counter media. Free Republic is one example. Maybe the Chicken Little should find a new line. The panic stricken assumption Old Conservatives continually scream that the Junk Media controls public opinion in this society may have been true in 1976, it is NOT in 2006. Quit WATCHING it. Listening tot he Junk Media is the modern day equivalent of dialing in Radio Berlin in 1943 to find out how the Allies are doing. They ARE your enemy. Quit empowering them

"UPDATE (Power Line): Night before last, I was awakened by the howling of coyotes. It was a sign, I think, that the Wile E. Coyote Democrats had returned. Were they destined to walk over the cliff? I don't know, but they did. All the while, waving a sign that says "Genius." These guys--Biden, Schumer, Leahy, Feinstein, even Kennedy!--actually think they're smart. And, since they're Senators, no one contradicts them. It's fun to watch."

Was Feinstein 'feeding' Kennedy his lines? It was obvious something was going on. The MSM can play up all the negatives about the President they want to and it will do no good. The country watching the above buffoons display their lack of intelligence and their rudeness will be the story, not what this headline says.......

"The era of the Junk Media dominating coverage is over. "

Amen to that. I listen to Rush every afternoon, and I thank God we have him and his brethren. I remember the bad old days when we had no alternative but to watch in horror as the MSM twisted, distorted and spun the truth for their own aims.

I love to watch the Liberal wailing and nashing of teeth. Some friends of mine have the nerve to complain that Rush has the captive ears of tens of millions of Americans every day - as if we are FORCED to listen to him. They just don't get it.

Bush Spends More Political Capital.

Quite a nice investment. Dems can't even filibuster without looking like fools. Roberts shined, Alito was steady and his wife gave him sympathy.

It's hard to deny W has had the opportunity to make a significant impact as President. I think he'll have a Reaganesque legacy.

It's like Fran Leibowitz's old line: "No matter how cynical you get, it's hard to keep up."

The Democrats keep outrunning the satirists.

I understand that some Dems are looking to reestablish the "fairness" doctrine which holds that if one point of view is aired, the opposite must be given equal time.

This was how the Dems kept people like Rush off the air for decades. This must not be allowed to happen.
