The sheriff's office said they have not confirmed if the gun is real or a toy.Which means it... was... a... toy.

That's exactly what I was thinking!
Too bad Jack Bower wasn't there! He'd have saved the kid. Or maybe not. He sure has killed a bunch of bad guys.

"Why not leave him in there until he kills himself, or comes out?" Why not? Because how do you justify your SWAT team funding if you don'tgo use them once in a while.
Just unfortunate this kid had to be the object lesson.
Without incidents like this, though, how will you train the next Lon Horiuchi?

Even replica's are called toys

It's very plausible that this kid has only been held back one year.

Maybe it was one of those air soft guns that are so popular. They look real and are pretty heavy, but use plastic pellets. Any kid can take a sharpie to the tip of it and color over the orange.

i was looking at it the other way, the kid has been held back at least once. which means odds are that there are some other surrounding problems.

How did the cop know the bathroom was empty of others? Was their a window he could snipe out of?

True enough, but it could just be a maturity issue. Probably wasn't, but there's just not enough information so that we can tell right now.

It could have been a starter pistol. We had access to those when I was in high school. Heck we used to take guns to school all the time as long as we locked them in the trunk.
And back in the frontier days kids were expected to take their guns to school so that they could pick up something for dinner on the way home.
Do they still use starter pistols? Or do they just light a firecracker or something.

What do you know about the parents that the rest of us don't? Should mental illness be blamed on parents?

LOL...I don't even know what a starter pistol is. I just know that those air soft guns are quite the thing lately. They look so real (with the exception of the orange tip). I expect that we will see air soft guns being used more frequently in situations such as this. Kids have easy access to them.

The cop shoould have whipped the gun out of his holster and shot the gun out of the kid's hand with one fluid motion. Wow, the SWAT team doesn't have rifles with scopes. What does SWAT stand for?
