Anyone who has even a passing knowledge of history knows that Islam is a militaristic and violent religion.

Christian author Hal Lindsey proclaimed on national television last night that Islam is a violent religion, with many believers becoming more "radical" the more they read the Muslim holy book, the Quran.

No kidding Hal. You're just stating the obvious.

So, basically Hal, you're telling us that the radical fundamentalist muslims pick and choose verses from the Quran in order to support and give credence to their screwed up views, the same way you pick and choose verses from the Bible to support and give credence to your screwy views.

More western religious leaders must speak up like this. They are alarmingly silent.

Good for Hal. While I may not agree with his views regarding the interpretation of Biblical end-time prophecies, I certainly applaud his courage to stare into the camera and tell the truth about the evils of radical Islamism.

To those Freepers that would make disparaging comments toward Hal, I would ask them if they would have the same level of courage to go on cable TV seen around the world and tell the truth about Islamism as Hal did. Give the man credit for what he did do right, which is more than I can say about 99% of our elected clowns in both political parties.

He is right on. If you look at these muslim school that teach these little kids to memorize umpteen thousand verses, they graduate into suicide bombers and other types of wackos. They are taught that and also to hate the west.

The question about "violence" in Islam is and has always hinged on the Koran and the Hadiths ( the ones considered authentic by MOST ISLAMIC authorities ).

1) How do you interprete the violent passages in the Koran ?

Most peaceful Muslims would say that they only refer to Muhammad's time and are mitigated by the other "peaceful" passages ( e.g., there should be no compulsion in religion ).

2) How do you interprete the violaent actions made by Muhammad in the Hadiths ?

Most peaceful Muslims would say that Muhammad was forced to be violent because the people he dealt with were violent. That his actions are not applicable to Muslims today.

Anyway you look at it, most Muslims today have to live in a state of cognitive dissonance in order to live in a pluralistic world.

The next obvious question is this --- HOW WELL VERSED ARE MOST MUSLIMS IN THEIR OWN KORAN AND HADITHS ?

Just as a lot of Christians do not even read their Bibles, I suspect a lot of Muslims don't either. Which I would say would be a good thing for the Muslims.

Stop calling it a religion. A cult is a cult. Let's get our ducks in a row here.

"Hal Lindsey proclaims: Islam a violent religion "

A few months after 9-11, PBS aired "Muhammad, Legacy of A Prophet",
an apologia on the life of the founder of the religion.

Although subsidized by a number of rich/prominent Muslims, it was
revelatory in ways the film-makers did NOT intend.

If a person watched and paid attention, it was pretty clear that Muhammad
was the leader of one of the "gangs" in a "Wild West" region and
managed to cobble together a bushido code for social control and to
maximize the take of land, loot, women and slaves. He wisely coated
the whole confabulation with a veneer of religional respectability
by plastering it with bits-and-pieces of Judaism and Christianity.

I thought I was being too harsh until I heard liberal radio show host
Ken Minyard (KABC 790AM, Los Angeles) echo my feeling about the film
(and Islam).

Plenty of decent people live peaceable, moral lives in the Islamic
world...but from what I can see, that's because they are not really
evangelically hooked into the full text of the Koran and Hadiths.
