INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A legislative committee in Indiana has approved a bill that would create a special license plate that bears the motto "In God We Trust."
"What I want is exactly what it says on the dollar bill," Republican state Rep. Woody Burton told the Indianapolis Star. "Nothing more."
Indiana already has 53 specialty license plates. Most cost more than standard-issue plates with some of the cash funneled to non-profit organizations.
A House committee approved the bill 7-1 Thursday, but similar legislation has stalled in the state senate in the past.
Burton said if the measure does not become law, he will use an alternative method of getting the plates issued -- by getting 700 names on a petition for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
"We're in a period of time in this country where there seems to be an awful lot of attack on faith-based initiatives of any type," he said.

GOFORIT!!!!!
We have three of these in Texas already. I'm still waiting for my KofC plate for my truck.
Why would anyone care if someone wants "In God We Trust" on their license plate? I sure as heck don't.
Oh my God all of those 6 Heathens in Oregon are going to get there little feelings hurt
Is Oregon part of the USA? Or the old USSR? That state is proof of what can happen when the fruitcakes from California migrate North!!!
Wish I had plates like some of the samples in CA. This state is so saturated with RATS, never happen. Darn.
So, nobody is asking you to get one. But just for your information, there are a heck of a lot of people who would. Oh, I forgot, everyone is out of step if they don't agree with you.

Huh? Go back and read what I said. I said I didn't see any reason to ban such plates. If someone wants them, they should have them.
I figured out the problem with that post to you....they might be a dyslexic agnostic who spent ten years trying to figure out the meaning of ...dog, hence the frustration of not understanding your original post!!! :0 )
It could also be that the poster read my tagline, instead of what I wrote. It's a common-enough error.
The west coast is predominately "blue" states, however, there are minor fractions that side with the "red" states.
Not too long ago, a proposal was entertained to split WA state in half with the east side becoming the conservative side. And, in CA, San Diego County is conservative...but the crackpots are moving in and taking over. If the Copley press doesn't cave, I think San Diego will remain conservative.
The United We Stand Plate honors the victims who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The fee for the plate is $25.00 every two years in addition to the regular motor vehicle registration fee. Fees collected for this plate will be distributed to the national 'Rewards For Justice' fund which was created to establish rewards for the capture of terrorists. This plate is available to anyone interested in commemorating September 11 and supporting our nation's efforts to combat terrorism.
The In God We Trust Plate is available for private passenger vehicles and trucks with an empty weight of 7,000 pounds or less and a gross vehicle weight of 9,000 pounds or less. The requirements and registration fee for this plate is the same as a regular license plate. The biennial fee is $24.00.
When I moved to SC three years ago I decided to go with the "In God We Trust" plate. This plate is very popular. I see them all over the place. ACLU, go stick it!
And best of luck to Rep. Woody Burton in trying to get Indiana to pass his legislation.
Another case Indiana will lose to the ACLU. We are still one Supreme Court Justice away from stopping the assult on Christianity. We are moving towards Canadian law where conservative Christianity is considered hate speech.
Do these morons have nothing better to do? How will this benefit anyone in IN?
