A Republican primary challenge to Senator Chafee of Rhode Island is attracting backing from national groups that favor tax cuts and a strong U.S.-Israel relationship.

The mayor of Cranston, R.I., Stephen Laffey, 43, is hoping to unseat Lincoln Chafee, a Republican who was appointed to the Senate in 1999 after the unexpected death of his father, John Chafee, and who won election to his father's former seat the following year.

Chafee, Laffey.... Now if they can only find a candidate named Taffy....

Unfortunately, this one appears to be from Virginia.

This is good news! With the short-sighted hacks at the NRSC smearing Laffey, it's important that he obtain financial support.

As far as I'm concerned, the Club for Growth IS the Republican Party!

GOOD. I'd love to see Chafee get knocked out just as an in-yer-face to the NRSC goon squad.

If chappy is the "best" you can get, then let the demonRATS have it. We need to teach the pubbies that we will replace rinos, hopefully with real pubbies or with RATS. They need to know why people voted for them.

In PA, we screwed the pooch in 04. Those of us that work and donate went for Pat Toomey and lost in the primary by 2 votes per district. I blame President Bush and Senator Rick Santorum for this outrage. I would have rather seen Toomey run in 04 {win or lose} because we would have had a real pubbie in the senate, not snarlen arlen sphincter, the scottish lawyer.

Unfortunately the national GOP committee would rather support an incumbent RINO than a challenger conservative.

I think that's their job. You need to challenge them in the primaries.

True, but that may be changing. I'm an optimist.

I'd love to see Chafee dumped but I hate Laffey more.

Can't vote for either of them.
Looks like I'll sit out the election for the first time since I was of age.

No. That's surrendering our principles. We people are presented with conservative and liberal principles, conservative principles win out in the end. If we allow the GOP to shift toward the Dems then the left has won and we lose. Let Chaffee decide if he wants to be a conservative or not.

Chafee felt it was more important to propagate the ANWR lie than to keep our military funded. If he loses I will shed no tears.

I have let the NRSC know that I will no longer support them and instead donate to Stephen Laffey's campaign (and campaigns for other conservative candidates). The NRSC keeps sending me pleas for money, and I use their postage-pre-paid envelopes to reiterate that they won't get another red cent from me so long as they keep smearing Laffey and supporting RINOs.

They will support the incumbent RINO in the primaries, too.

Of course they will. You have to unseat the RINO. They won't support the RINO against an incumbent Republican. Contribute to the Club for Growth or another interest group that contributes to opponents in the primaries.

Not necessarily. Stephen Laffey is Mayor of Cranston, which is not known for its Republican voting habits.
