Today was the long-anticipated status hearing on guardianship for Scott.
The hearing took place in judge's chambers with Pamela and her attorneys and Eliza and her attorneys. Pamela presented the judge with information that she has now filed with the court to have Scott declared "partially capacitated". This means, at the very least, that he would then be allowed to indicate his preferences for his social environment, such as who is allowed to visit. He has repeatedly indicated that he does not want to see Eliza, but he does wants to see his son.
Pamela also informed the judge that, after Scott is legally determined to be "partially capacitated", they would be filing for a divorce for him. [emphasis mine]
Eliza indicated to the judge that she would fight any divorce proceedings.
The final item that Pamela presented to the judge is that Scott is scheduled for surgery to close his tracheotomy opening, which should allow him to regain his ability to speak and make sound.
Based on all the above information, Judge Wilkes ruled to grant Pamela another six months of full guardianship of Scott. This will be a crucial time for Pamela and Scott, as they continue to work, not only for Scott's recovery, but for him to regain the right and ability to truly "speak for himself".

A controversial view. Whatever the truth of the matter, the Germans did not need or learn any lessons about Eugenics from us. The whole Nazi movement was spurred by Darwinist thought. (So was the Communist movement in Russia.)

They could downsize his trach to a #4 cuffless fenestrated trach with a passe muir valve. He would then be able to speak if he was still able to. This device allows a tight seal on the tracheostomy system and forces the patient to breath through mouth and nose; this allows air to vibrate the vocal chords and the person to speak. I'm surprised they have not graduated to this device already. Surgery on the trachea should not be needed unless the trach was majorly traumatized!

Frankenstein (with all those torch bearers) was 1931, the Bride of Frankenstein film was 1935. Not likely either is still in copyright, those publicity photos are all over the place. One I posted is from the 1935 film; the other looks like some sort of joke, long ago, with a guy wearing a mask. Dunno.
Another very troubling thing - several of the articles I've read, use almost the same following words: **The governor said the state has no immediate plans to withdraw the girl's life support.** I keep looking for them to say they have NO plans to withdraw her life support (which most likely means her feeding tube). Instead they say no immediate plans or current plans. I don't like the wording they are using. IMO, they are keeping the door open to take away her food and water in the future.
I think you've got it right on the money, and it is terrifying to me.
I also agree with what you've said about the term PVS, it is a horrible pseudo-scientific term that should be thrown out. Although there have been many more cases than I can mention here, the most recent in my mind to whom it was misapplied: Patricia White-Bull, Terri Schindler-Schiavo, Sarah Scantlin and now Haleigh Poutre. There are many, many others who we do not hear about, but I am certain that are misdiagnosed. We have to keep at it. We are lost if we give in.
This article reminded me of Terry Wallis, whom I forgot to mention in my previous post. All the reports said that Terry was in a coma, just like they used to say about Terri Schiavo, until we crammed it down their throats that they were overusing the term. The MSM fooled the masses.
Now they say that Terry Wallis must have been minimally conscious all that time. Well, hell's bells! It's about time that members of the scientific community get their act together, and about time that we insist that the MSM begin to use terms accurately.
Dear sweet Haleigh! This story brought home to me the very difficult life that Haleigh has already had to bear. What a fighter to have survived all this! Well, she ain't finished yet, folks!

So what is Frist talking about, this is a "personal" matter? Terri's death was an official Florida execution by torture.

Frist is so milquetoast that another word needs to be coined for that type of lackluster personality. He is apparently a great heart surgeon, and that's what he needs to resume doing. I don't think he is an effective politician, and he never would have been elected to the Senate had not 1994 been a strongly Republican year, in my opinion.
Can the governor of liberal MA save the girl's life even if he wanted too? Is not the liberal Supreme Court there paramount to the governor? I think it's a pretty weak governorship, which may explain why the massive margin of liberal Democrats there keep voting in liberal Republican governors.
I don't know whether he could save her if he wanted to. I just pray that everyone gives Haleigh the chance she so richly deserves.
