What was that show with Michael J. Fox...in which he was the conservative son with x-hippy parents?
Watch that show. Do what he did.
Totally. Let's Freep his blog, put his uncle in his place, and get that kid over here.
I heard this in my car. Rush handled his advice to this intelligent young man beautifully. He was so thoughtful and careful in what he said to the boy.
Whoomp! There the link is!
A bit too George Michaels for my taste, but if Rush can help him with his parents, then I am all for it.
That was a great segment
Brookfield is in NE Ohio, it's near Youngstown and Warren, so the union mentality is driven hard there.
Gotta hand it to that kid!

Honing his debating skills at home is not a bad thing. At least he can hold conversations with his parents... not all kids can.
I'm half tempted to play a liberal with my boys just so they rebel and become conservative. Both my parents (who are fantastic) are recovering hippies that used to parade me in anti-war parades with a black arm band when I was 2. Naturally, I went to school on an ROTC scholarship and served 6 years active and 7 years reserve in the Navy. I just don't know if I can play act a liberal for 18 years.
It is so obviously Rush talking to his "inner child."
Takers?
No way to prove it, but; come on...

Must read this later
Thanks for posting this transcript. I was mostly listening today to Rush, but only caught some of this conversation.
That poor kid. Unfortunately, if he goes on to academentia, he'll likely get more of the same, only industrial-strength.
Perhaps the key here is what I'm gonna call "respectful demand"; I sorta made a study of Condi Rice, facing various libjerks. She, of course, was much more respectful than I'm being, now! And she never, ever lost her grace, dignity, composure, nor her concise articulate power. But she's had many decades of practice, which our Justin does not.
And one major thing I learned from watching Condi is this:
she would listen respectfully, and then demand, politely, the same treatment. If her tormentors strayed off the topic, she'd interrupt- politely- saying, "Let's be clear ..." and then proceed to define the problem and her respectful response. Always polite, persistent, and respectful (as I think she wrote, somewhere)- PPR.
I've tried this, and with the worst of the worst- humanities professors who rant and rage against Mr. Bush- always they assume if I am silent, I agree!!! Pretty arrogant, huh!
I time them, and then I let 'em have it, right between the ears- but politely, saying something like, "I've politely listened to you for the past XX minutes, and now you must reciprocate by listening, politely, to me." If they fuss and fume, I just nod sadly. I've got to find something clever to add as a parting shot, if they won't be fair. Fairness is not their strong suit, usually.
So, it's PPR for them.

LOL. Ain't that the truth!
Can't wait to listen to the podcast of this!
Wow!! I am sorry I missed this. I haven't finished reading the whole transcript, but when I saw this, I had to react:
Justin, it sounds to me that at least some of this is inspired by basic male competition. At some deep level, your father sees you becoming a man, and for whatever reason, it really bothers him. He will soon no longer be the alpha male.
Just my two cents, and now I will return to reading the transcripts. It sounds like one of Rush's legendary calls. How to give advice in a situation like this?
But Justin, if you are a Freeper, PLEASE freepmail me!
Also, please ping me on stuff like this, PJ-Comix, if you don't mind.
Now I can't remember how I found this thread, if I was checking pings or just browsing, so sorry if you had pinged me.
Good job Justin! Now where is the STOP plug?
Justin, you are a very bright young man. Someone get this boy a Freeper screen name, if he doesn't have one yet!
And I thought Rush handled this very well. I wish I could borrow him when I have some issue come up with my kids. Maybe he could branch out into Dr. Laura's territory, LOL! ;)
(j/k: he is way too needed in politics)
