What was that show with Michael J. Fox...in which he was the conservative son with x-hippy parents?

Watch that show. Do what he did.

Family Ties. The producers had him display a picture of Nixon on his nightstand to show his conservative credentials. If there's one thing that stands out about that show (and I loved it), it was the association of the GOP with Nixon. Of course, this was during Reagan's presidency...

My parents are (were? I don't know if they're still around) democraps. They were the room temperature IQ type. But I repeat myself. Anyhoo, they were the typical "Democrats are for the workin man, Republicans are for the rich" type. My political awakening came a little bit later than it did for Justin, but I had conservative leanings as a child.

I used to do one thing that really ticked them off, and it was a riot. One summer, my old man decided to build a garage, so I had to help. When I was laying bricks, I'd sing negro spirituals, like "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" and "Old Man River". The old drunk would yell at me to knock it off, and I'd say "Yessah Masser! You wanna see me do some softshoe?"

He'd turn the most interesting shades of red.
