Anti-Christmas votes Last week, the House of Representatives passed a resolution to protect the symbols and traditions of Christmas. The vote was 401-22 in favor of the resolution (5 voted "present"); below are the representatives that voted "nay." Gary Ackerman (D-NY) Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) Lois Capps (D-CA) Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) Diana DeGette (D-CO) Jane Harman (D-CA) Alcee Hastings (D-FL) Michael Honda (D-CA) Barbara Lee (D-CA) John Lewis (D-GA) Jim McDermott (D-WA) George Miller (D-CA) Gwen Moore (D-WI) James Moran (D-VA) Donald Payne (D-NJ) Bobby Rush (D-IL) Janice Schakowsky (D-IL) Bobby Scott (D-VA) Fortney Stark (D-CA) Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) Robert Wexler (D-FL) Lynn Woolsey (D-CA
Looks like no Texas DemocRATS were dumb enough to vote against this.
How could anyone Jewish vote against religious freedom?
Communists
Dost my eyes decieve me? Were they ALL Demoncrats? Wow. Moving Along now.
Strange, that. I made the same observation.
Somebody should tell them Christmas is not celebrated in North Korea, and they're welcome to leave...
I see that little weasel Moran is still sucking up to the invaders.
Voting "present" isn't very impressive either. Which ones did that?
Not odd that Barbara Lee, the only member of Congress to vote against the invasion of Afghanistan, is.
Where's Maxine Waters? She's a major dumbocrat.
Kalifornia has it's share on the list.
"I see that little weasel Moran is still sucking up to the invaders."
I was going to post how much I hate this fool, but realized I don't have the words to do so.
WHAT!! Even Kerry and Kennedy didn't dare to vote against it?!?!?!?
This shouldn't have even come up for a vote. The First Amendment prohibits Congress from making a law the establishes a religion or PREVENTS THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF. They shouldn't have had to bring up for a vote what the Constitution already addresses.
Okay, folks with names like Ackerman and Wasserman get a pass on this one. The resolution had a fairly explicit approval of the celebration of Jesus' birth, so the Jewish congressmen couldn't really be expected to vote yes.
But does anyone think it a bit ironic that Congressman Emanuel Cleaver voted against the resolution? I wonder what his mamma who chose his name has to say (or would have said) about his vote.
Still, even though they are Jewish, it is in their best interest to vote for it. Otherwise, it would snowball and nothing would be safe. Jews should be especially aware of where that can lead and avoid it at all costs.
Don't want to be in California when God brings his wrath.
Your right.
Where the heck are the little "R"'s next to any of those names????
Not really. They can no more be expected to vote explicit support for the commemoration of Christ's birth than I as a Christian could be expected to support a resolution supporting the content of the Babylonian Talmud, which accused Jesus of sorcery.
The resolution was not crafted as a general support for the state recognizing the benefit of religious observance and a recognition of the fact that a majority of Americans as Christians celebrate Jesus' birth, but specifically approved the celebration of His birth. Perfectly fine resolution for the Christians in the House to vote through, but not one we can legitimately expect Jews, particularly pious Jews, to vote for.
Plenty more out there who'd bit their tongue no doubt....
