WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The last remaining U.S. independent counsel, David Barrett, after spending $21 million over 10 years, on Jan. 12 finally will close down his investigation of former Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros' lying to FBI investigators about hush money paid to an ex-mistress. The political significance is that the Barrett report's shocking allegations of high-level corruption in the Internal Revenue Service and Justice Department are likely to be concealed from the public and from Congress.

The informant said a regional IRS official had formulated a new rule enabling him to transfer an investigation of Cisneros to Washington to be buried by the Justice Department. Barrett's investigators found Lee Radek, head of Justice's public integrity office, determined to protect President Bill Clinton.

FYI Ping

Now THAT'S interesting.

Why are people so determined to protect Clinton?

Winner take all.

Especially troubling when you realize how many Clinton cronies ran major metropolitan areas.

A recently passed appropriations bill, intended to permit release of this report, was altered behind closed doors to ensure that its politically combustible elements never saw the light of day

Also .. who exactly altered the bill???

I know Kerry tried to get this quashed on the senate floor by trying to sneak it in a bill

Big Surprise!

I've seen corruption in the IRS first-hand. Mostly at lower levels, but stuff like that happens all the time.

In one of the IRS Service Centers in the early 70's some IRS employees were involved in drug trafficking through inter-office mail. The flunkies got fired, prosecuted and jailed. The management people got a slap on the wrist. There was suspicion that the drug dealing was responsible for a manager not involved in the drug scheme disappearing during a deer hunting trip. His body was never found, and no one was ever arrested for his death/disappearance. Rumor had it he was going to report the other managers, but disappeared before he could do it. Looks like someone else reported them anyway.

Those toking managers eventually moved their way up to the national office, and may still be there for all I know.

I'm starting to worry that Rush is right. The political class protects itself.

Who tried to squash this and exactly why? Ack!

bbl tomorrow...although officially, it IS tomorrow.

What we need here is a leak!

This report needs to get out, regardless of what our honorable senators might do, by any means possible.

So why is it leaks only ever seem to happen when they are damaging to the good guys?

A couple of Republicans, Senator Kit Bond and Congressman Joe Knollenberg, are the sick scumbags responsible for allowing the suppression of the full report. I wonder who has dirt on them, or what it is they want to hide?

Who exactly is covering up the evidence? A name please...

There won't be a leak. The bureaucrats have their own version of MAD. If there was a leak in the IRS, then those who reported such a leak would land in some rather hot water.

Republicans, Senator Kit Bond and Congressman Joe Knollenberg,

This came out last week actually, but got little notice.

WHY they did it is a good question. Are they compromised? Being blackmailed by the Clintoon culture of corruption? In full CYA mode?

Completely disgusting.
