LAST spring was an unbearably dry season - and I don't mean weather-wise. Without a steady man in my life, I hadn't had sex in several months. Now in my 40s, an age when a woman realizes that her youthful ability to turn male heads was something she once took (wrongly) for granted, I worried whether my celibacy was less a matter of circumstance than the start of something more permanent.
Online dating offered a short-term fix. Browsing the nerve.com personals, I found "Word Guy," a 38-year-old poet who, according to his ad, was looking for "fun." In his photo, he appeared clean-cut: fair hair, wire-rimmed glasses, white oxford shirt with rolled-up cuffs, an athletic build and healthy-looking teeth.
Had I been looking for true love, I might have ignored him since, to me, being a poet is synonymous with being penniless, and my romantic radar is permanently set on guys with secure day jobs. But given that my immediate needs were otherwise, I was not about to discriminate against a charity case.
Contrary to Darwinian theory -or common sense - studs are not the only ones who score. Schlubs do all right, too. But it isn't desire that drives women into their arms. Pity does.

This Hayt woman is a new columnist for the paper. She will be writing about her pitiful life. If I wanted to read this kind of stuff, I'd buy Penthouse. The Post has always covered lurid crimes and scandals but this is too much.
I'm not sure what is going on at News Corp. FNC is headed into the dumper - letting RFK, Jr. put on his enviro-fascist propaganda. Now, The Post sinks to a new low.
Thank God for FR.
Sounds like she's a Carrie "Sex in the City" wannabe!
Maureen Dowd has competition in the male-bashing department, it seems.
Oh, here's another reason women date "schlubs"... desperation borne of a midlife sex drive that is every bit the equal of a teenage male's.
Evidently Murdoch's son resigned from the business, and after that it started to move left. Look at that hit series on guns as another example.
I guess Elizabeth Hayt is the Post's answer to Maureen Dowd.
Hey, have some pity on us schlubs!
K-Mart version of Maureen Dowd...and that's pretty bad.
Well, let them be - as long as they do not spread disease or frighten the horses.
I don't know how to cut & paste onto this forum, but Elizabeth Hayt's picture can be found at ... http://www.twbookmark.com/authors/54/3123/ . She looks pretty good.
The fact that if not for his inability she was ready to do the guy doesn't bode well in the disease-spreading category.
Looks good to me, too.
And remember, this is after a major makeup job, in the chosen pose, with the professional photographer whose job it is to make her look as good as possible. I wonder what she looks like with a scowl on her face... I bet it ain't pretty at all.
If she looks pretty good and has trouble finding a man, chances are her personality bites. Or to put it more directly, she's a b*tch.
Why do so many bitter, resentful middle-aged women feel the need to whine about how bitter and resentful they are? Don't they have anything better to write about?
If they only had a hun!
I remember when I was about 21 years old and I seen a knockout gorgeous chick walk past my uncle and I. After telling my uncle I was in love, he replied, "No matter how beautiful or a perfect specimen of a woman you think God had made, remember .... someone before you said to her, 'Pack your sh!t and get the f*ck out!'"
Yeah, don't forget that for these `Sex in the City' wannababes, a "schlub" is a guy who doesn't have Donald Trump's money, or Mel Gibson's looks. In combination.
Result: 53 year old Maureen Dowd no-man's-good-enough aging spinsters. Proliferating.
Bulimic.
Answer: Stop hanging out with NYC Metrosexuals. Try a red-state guy.
Air your undersexed frustrations with your bimbo tramp friends, ya' skank.
