My car smelled like syrup when the coolant was leaking from the head gasket. Maybe there is coolant being dumped somewhere?

Aunt Jemima will be happy to hear this. Denny's will be filling pancake and waffle orders for a long time.

I'll bet there's one of those notorious syrup labs operating in the area.

I hope they tested for tabun. It's a nerve agent that has a fruity odor when vaporized. Some say it smells like bitter almonds. It's lethal within about 15 minutes in both the vapor or liquid form, either inhaled or touched.

I remember reading about an "industrial" accident in some eastern US city where a huge vat of molasses broke and spewed the sticky stuff all down the street. Apparently was big enough that the wave of molasses drowned some people.

I'm thinking I heard that it smelled of molasses for quite a long time afterward there.

It might have been in Boston, but if it was NY, I'd bet that some construction has unearthed some of the stuff somewhere.
