Iconic comic genius, Richard Pryor is dead today at 8:35 after a 19 year battle with multiple sclerosis.
Born Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor, on December 1, 1940 the multi-talented star was pronounced dead of a cardiac arrest at 8:00 am at a hospital near his home.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer Lee Pryor and his six children; Richard Junior, Elizabeth Storder, Rain Kindlin, Kelsey, Steven and Franklin Mason, and his three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private with a memorial service by invitation
Rip. Funny guy.
Eugene McCarthy and Richard Pryor both died today.
In my opinion, Pryor was the only one who contributed anything good to society.
RIP for Richard.
He also had a small role in John Wayne's "The Green Berets." The last time I watched the movie I tried to spot Pryor, but there was no good shot of his face.
Also, IIRC, he was listed as Richard "Tiger" Pryor in the end credits.
Richard Pryor was a genius comic, and had a way about him that few have ever had. I am happy that he found peace in his life and got away from the drug culture that hurt him so. May God bless him and keep him near, as I'm certain that He likes humor too, and Richard Pryor will make the heavens laugh. May his family and friends be at peace now, and I hope all of their memories of him are good ones.
"RIP. However I do not think he was funny. Drugged up and foul mouthed maybe. Nipsy Russell was funnier."
You're the one.
In case you want my opinion the others are 1) Jonathan Winters, 2)George Carlin and, in his prime (before the politics), 3)Robin Williams
Sad.
Pryor has had MS for a very long time. He was confined to a wheel chair, could not talk and had to be fed. He has been in bad shape for a few years or more now. So no, no overdose.
Agree with your assessment.
But he seemed like a good guy, sorry he had to suffer from MS for 20 years.
Didn't he try to committ suicide, 25 years ago? Something about buring himself?
Time to watch "Silver Streak" in RP's honor.
He was freebasing cocaine and set himself on fire. Lived to joke about it.
Ditto, Gene was a larger turd and not funny.
" 'Stir Crazy'
We be bad!
" Fire is inspirational."
Good Morning judge.
his first appearance on Johnny Carson after his little freebasing accident he convinced Johnny, off the air, to light up a cigarette when they came back on. Carson almost never lit up on air, even if he did smoke while the show was on.
Carson did, not knowing what Pryor had in mind. Pryor freaked out and it scared Carson nearly to death. One of the funniest moments I've ever seen.
I also enjoyed his 99% bleeped opening monologue from his VERY short lived show on NBC. He had set up a typical "joe announcer" voice over explaining what "Mr Pryor really means to say." All the while you can read his lips as he gets more and more out there.
Those who loved him will miss him. The rest of us have him forever. I look forward to seeing a rush of retrospective stuff. As others have said the man had his demons. He also had incredible talent. I pray to our Lord to cherish and succor him.
Ouch.
Well, at least he survived that.
No, that was Cleavon Little. Cleavon died in '92. Of course, Wilder was the Waco Kid in "Saddles" in addition to the movies he did with Pryor, so I guess it's a reasonable mistake.
I saw it on Fark. I hope it's wrong, but I would think RP's website would be a pretty good source.
A really funny and brave guy.
