Iconic comic genius, Richard Pryor is dead today at 8:35 after a 19 year battle with multiple sclerosis.
Born Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor, on December 1, 1940 the multi-talented star was pronounced dead of a cardiac arrest at 8:00 am at a hospital near his home.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer Lee Pryor and his six children; Richard Junior, Elizabeth Storder, Rain Kindlin, Kelsey, Steven and Franklin Mason, and his three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private with a memorial service by invitation
Watching that right now. I missed the bit on Pryor and Chase. But looking at the top 20 so far, that should have been further up. Sad news indeed. Pryor was a real groundbreaker
He was a really funny guy but the filth became gratuitous as time went on and actually made him less entertaining.
I remember he had a kid's show on for a while. I really liked it. That's how I remember him.
His "Roots" skit is one of the most memorable moments in the history of stand-up comedy.
I think he was suffering from some sort of cancer, if I am not mistaken.
What strange twists his life took..I remember first seeing him on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. The man was so funny I nearly hurt myself laughing. He did some routines on life in Peoria that were hysterical. It wasn't just the words, but the delivery, the voices, the facial expressions, he was brilliant.
It seems his career came unglued after he made his anti-homosexual pronouncements at a Hollywood Bowl appearance.
I hope so. God bless him and especially his family. He was pretty funny on things like SNL.
susie
So he really is Prior.
(he was a comedian after all)
He road a Blazzin' Saddle!
God Bless.
R.I.P., RP----you were one funny cat, for sure.
Thanks for all the laughs.
I remember that as well...never thought his movies were very funny, but boy his stand-up act made me laugh in high school and college..always thought his stand-up was much better than Eddie Murphy's.
God, after he burned himself, he did a joke in which he pulled out a match and lit it and said..."I heard you all making jokes about me when I was in the hospital...what is this? Richard Pryor running down the street"
I will miss Mr. Pryor.
How very sad. Prayers for his family. I haven't been keeping up, didn't realize he was so ill.
Rest in peace. He was a talented guy, a lesser Red Fox.
RIP. Thanks for all the laughs.
?
One of my favorite Richard Pryor scenes - when he was put in the cell w/ Grossberger in 'Stir Crazy'. Funny man.
God bless him.
