Groucho or Harpo

LOL...whichever one believed that systems and not people are at the root of corruption.

I talked with him for a few minutes at a Sci-Fi con about 10 years ago. He seemed like a laid-back fellow and a straight shooter (if you are familiar with the sci-fi actor scene, you will recognize that those traits are relatively uncommon). I had no idea that he had a radio show. Good for 'ol Garibaldi!

For all of his liberal leanings and atheism, JMS is a good enough writer that he could write conservative characters and religious characters believable enough that real conservatives and religious people could identify with them. That's the sign of a great writer. Most lesser writers wind up writing their opinion and put it up against straw man bad guys. JMS understands that people often have understandable reasons for holding different points of view.

What I found particularly funny was that years ago, a liberal on a message board claimed that he thought Garibaldi was racist. Bear in mind that in the course of Babylon 5, Garibaldi is not only just about everyone's friend but he reads the Narn religious book and ends as a close friend of the black Dr. Franklin (sadly, the actor who played the doctor passed away -- he was a good actor). Why did they think he was racist? My guess is that it was the liberal knee-jerk reaction to anyone who isn't politically correct (Garibaldi does say some very un-PC things) and sounds conservative -- to the liberal mind, they must be racist, even when the evidence strong suggests exactly the opposite.

As I recall, he learned the Narn language to do so (the Book of G'Quon, like the Koran in the real world, is not supposed to be translated).

Also, I recall a scene in the episode where an epidemic was sweeping the Markab population, and had shown itself potentially capable of jumping species (i.e. as far as anybody knew, humans could get it too), where Garibaldi literally gives a hand up to a plague victim who had been beaten up by a bunch of yahoos.

Exactly. And depite all that, all some liberal schmuck sees is a racist. I sometimes wonder if they live on the same planet that I do.

So you're actually saying I shouldn't be annoyed at Republicans? I didn't say EVERYONE is corrupt..I said everyone is corruptable and that most of the Congressmen who sit on those appropriation committees are taking bribes. Yes, that's what I mean. And you don't think a book about what really goes on Washington that weeds out the crooks would be a good thing, then I have nothing in common with you. Until this system is fixed, it's only going to get worse. Isn't what FreeRepublic stands for anyway?

Right from our homepage: Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America

Glenn Beck disinvited someone? No, it was Roger Hedgecock who disinvited Glenn Beck from ever subbing for him again.

We have something in common. I find people who use the word RINO in every post as offensive as....well...just offensive.

That was one of the big reasons my husband and I loved B5. Religion and belief were treated not only respectfully, but as a living, breathing part of the lives of the characters. And we LOVED Garibaldi!

If you go to his website, you can subscribe for something like 7 bucks for a month and you only have to subsribe for a month at a time so if you tire of him, you can back out without a 50 buck commitment.

I'm hoping for a subscription for Christmas! I've certainly dropped enough hints around here. "I WANT A SUBSCRIPTION TO JERRY DOYLES WEBCAST!"

Ya think that will work?

He's great. I disagree with him about 1/2 the time, but at lease he's thinking, and in a very entertaining way. His sarcasm level is very high which in my house is the equivalent of breathing. Also, he doesn't mind poorly typed e-mail.

I did subscribe for one month...$5.95....I wanted to hear what he said about my note, and I wasn't in a position to listen to his show yesterday. So I subscribed and got to listen to my original call on Tuesday and then what he said on Wednesday. It was cool. I was mad because as a SIRIUS subscriber they lead you to believe you can listen to the networks on the web, but once you join you only get a couple of music networks and the LEFT NETWORK...none of the right commentators. Gee, I wonder why.

So far I do like him, time will tell but I like that he does encourage activism and he really is a registered independent. I decided that I am going to register as an independent. Like he said, let them work for my vote.

I've seen both Doyle and JMS at science fiction conventions and JMS described himself as an unbeliever who writes about belief and a person who can't forgive who writes about forgiveness. I think he's really fascinated enough by the things he isn't that he really tries to understand them in his writing. I don't agree with much of his politics but I like his writing skill. You might find this story about what Karl Rove told Bruce Boxleitner when he was visiting with his wife interesting.

Considering there are over 400 men and women in congress and you like the rest of the media just love to focus on the negative, I find the suggesting that they're ALL corrupt, about to be corrupt, or want to be corrupt, totally unacceptable and UNTRUE.

I said all humans are corruptable and that I believe the majority of Congressman are corrupt meaning they have done things that are either ethically challenged or outright illegal to get elected or enrich themselves personally. If you believe otherwise...bully for you.

Did you know Bruce Boxleitner is Conservative? I heard him on an interview on talk radio probably about a year ago. I was surprised. I forget who it was with. But he really belted out at Hollywood but just laughed at the difference in his and his wife's political belief. I guess that's true love, I don't get it though. However, that talk with Rove must have been thrilling for him!

I've heard some question just how conservative Bruce Boxleitner really is but I think both he and his wife supported Doyle for his run for congress and he at least seems to fall within the "big tent" definition of conservative. I have heard that Bruce Boxleitner and Jerry Doyle had some animated debates with Jason Carter and some other liberal cast members on Babylon 5, though.
