Military exercises? Could be, but it's also the area where the quake was 10 days ago.

Wasn't there another plane in Iran with several high-ranking military aboard that 'crashed' several months ago?

Is there a systemic problem with Iranian planes or with Iranian planes carrying high-ranking military?

hmmmmm

They really can find excuse to blame America for anything bad happen to them. I wonder if they're blaming America for being Muslims too...

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't Bandar Abbas SOUTHWEST of Teheran?

And can a C-130 hold 90 passengers? (Maybe they mean a C-17?)

The Commander of the Iranian Air Force died several years ago in a transport plane crash. The IRIAF seems to have a very shaky safety record. Also a country with treacherous terrain and weather conditions.

Yes, it's a bad thing. But the poetic justice. A military plane of an Islamist nation crashing into a residential building?

That guy was killed by the mullahs' regime!

A bomb was planted in his jetstar airplane!

he was a secular and very well trained commander of the Iranian air force

Military and other planes routinely use Tehran Mehrabad..colocated civilian and military facilities.

Seems plausible. Assassinations by airplane are not uncommon. I have wondered if someone (and who) popped the IL-76 loaded with Rev Guard that crashed in SW Iran several years ago....bad guys flying out of a bad place.

Oops, make that IL-76 crash site SE Iran. Near Baluchistan I think.

"IRAN MILITARY PLANE STRUCK 10-STOREY BUILDING - ISNA STUDENT NEWS AGENCY "

Was the student news agency in the building? Isn't that paper anti government? Hmmm....

I still question whether the C-130 can hold 90 people.
A C-17 might, if it was configured as a passenger plane.

And as somebody else noted, if there were that many journalists on board, perhaps there were also some
governmental officials (unspecified as of yet) aboard?

Just speculation.

Safety and reliability doesn't seem to be the watchwords there, just get them in the air. We now see the results of that.

Hey! You related to Kallstrom? I think that's a bit of a leap for the conclusion, there. C130's crash in the States, too, with real spare parts and 'good' maintenance.
