Let her ride without 'papers'

We've never been keen on the idea of government officials demanding an ID from citizens going about their normal business. It reminds us of scenes from those old movies of World War II in which the hero, who has slipped onto a train in occupied Europe, finds himself confronted by some grim-faced official demanding to see his "papers

Hey, this aint no big deal. Go get some false ID, and move around like the terroists do. When I went to get MY fake ID, I told the guy, THIS IS MY REAL NAME, he said, That's what they all say.

She knew she would be ID'd. She'd done it plenty times before. This was a woman on the ALCU's payroll.

Do we really want people (read: possible spies) to be able to "ride" through our government facilities without having to show ID?

Can I refuse to let you in my house if you refuse to show me identification?

Can I refuse to let you into my business if you refuse to show identification?

Can I refuse to let you into a submarine base where nuclear subs are docked, if you refuse to show identification?

Can I refuse to let you onto any federal property if you refuse to show identification?

This is actually pretty dumb. The guards look at the IDs, but don't do anything. You could present a Saudi Arabian driver's license identifying you as 'Osama bin Laden', and they would just glance at it and hand it back to you.

YOur contention is..... everyone is a spy until proven otherwise?
Better control of the borders will reduce the potential of spys mingling. Keeping track of those physically suspect is more productive than "mining" the loyal citizen base for suspects.

ID should always be displayed when entering a military base or other sensitive locations where "spys" may attempt to enter. On the other hand, public thoroughfares cannot be monitored without imposing a facist form of martial law.

Hmmmn - if you hadn't chosen "Disraeli Gladstone" perhaps the nice officer wouldn't have replied as he did. ;-)

People should be allowed to travel freely without being harassed by the government for their papers.

Actually, I say "BRAVO" to this woman, and how do you know she's not on Bob Barr's payroll?

The place to be demanding papers is at the border, not on a public bus route.

Denver is notorious for making laws to bypass civil rights and make "law enforcement" easy. They used to be the only place in the state that a motorcycle need a front fender so that the city could increase fine monies and pull over any motorcycle they wanted without cause. If they suspect you of having a semiautomatic "assault weapon" they can stop you for that. All Denver laws are ACLU enforced!

This was a well orchestrated event with the coaching of Dem operative Bill Scannell and the ACLU. Deborah Davis is their shill.

This woman might be a loony leftist, or again, she might not. She has a son serving in Iraq.

She's right on this issue. Americans should not have to carry internal passports to travel on a public bus.

Here in Florida, the City of Miami police will start storming banks and other private businesses and asking everyone for their papers. All in the name of safety against terrorism.

Enough.

9/11 was the failure of bureaucrats at every level. The bureaucrats issued visas to people who did not qualify at all; they even issued visas to terrorists who failed to fill out the proper forms.

And guess who is being punished? Not the bureaucrats who don't do their job by complying with the existing rules. No. The innocent American citizen must be punished with new rules that are seldom enforced against real terrorists.

It reminds me of the Clinton apologists. Every time the Clintons were caught breaking existing laws, the Clinton spin-meisters would tell us that we needed new federal laws to prevent such crimes in the future.

Which kind of logic is that?

---it's the same kind of logic as applied after some much publicised gun crime--the leftists and statists immediately set out to take them away from the people who didn't misuse one--

Well, she'd shown her ID before and knew she'd have to do it again, was about to travel within the Federal Center's grounds (even though she wasn't getting-off within the area), and if you look at her website you'll see she has a publicity/press agent and says she's available for interviews and bookings.

IMO: they were within the law to ask for ID if she was about to enter the Federal grounds whether she was disembarking or not. She didn't want to comply with the request and she refused to get off the bus to allow it to continue. She admittedly doesn't ride that route anymore and hasn't been asked for ID since. She has the option of choosing another route that DOESN'T go through the Fed area. Everyone else who rides that particular route apparently has no problems with identifying themselves to pass through the area.

She's a media-whore trying to be a martyr for her 15 minutes of fame.
