In a recent message on a Yahoo listserv a venue where groups of people post questions and comments on a particular topic Paul Mirecki, chairman of KUs department of religious studies, described his upcoming course Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationisms and other Religious Mythologies.
The fundies want it all taught in a science class, but this will be a nice slap in their big fat face by teaching it as a religious studies class under the category mythology, Mirecki wrote.
He signed the note Doing my part (to upset) the religious right, Evil Dr. P.

Doing my part to upset the religious right" is already a bumper sticker. Seen it in southern New Hampshire...
Was there ever any doubt about what evolutionists think about the 'Creator'?
Extremism most scientific.
A lot of equal opportunity mocking here:

People attacking the Christians are just one more batch of the heathens of twenty centuries. They have lots of company.
So, the chairman of religious studies MOCKS religion??? Sounds about right for an "enlightened" university environment.
Once Evolution is taught in this class as a modern Creation story, then I'll believe they are being equal-opportunity. Until such a time, I'll continue to believe that it is just a Christian bashing exercise by bigoted people.
He's got a great sense of humor.
In the last few years their course in football mocked football fans.
The highest numbers of rapes and STD cases are found on college campuses..
Higher learning in America.
If he wants the students to have a well rounded education,
I would hope he would invite some of the ID'ers, or
creationist like Dembski, Johnson, or the others who have signed friends of the court statements to speak in his class.
Usually, anthropology classes invite some member of the group of people they are studying to fill in the gaps of the groups outlook. This would be most enlightening, but I guess a non physical, or biological scientist like the KU professor, is the BEST person to tell his students why other scientists believe in ID, or creation.
I would conclude from the story that Mireki doesn't intend to invite any IDers to lecture in his classes. He just wants to hold it up to ridicule without serious challenge.
I would appear that Mirecki has no originality.
Students' parents are paying big bucks for this??
