It is fitting in more ways than one that Ted Koppel devotes the final program in his 26-year reign on ABC's "Nightline" to the charming sociology professor who died from Lou Gehrig's disease and inspired Mitch Albom's "Tuesdays with Morrie."
The three 1995 "Nightline" shows in which Koppel talked with Morrie Schwartz about living life and coping with death were among the most memorable of his 6,500 programs.
Additionally, his last show, which airs at 11:35 tonight on Channel 7, will show "Nightline" fans what they will be missing with Koppel's departure: The time to devote to one captivating story that isn't necessarily exciting but is educational and has tremendous emotional impact.
ABC appears ready to turn "Nightline" into a version of "Prime Time Live." Cynthia MacFadden, Terry Moran and Martin Bashir will replace the 65-year-old Koppel next week on a faster-paced show that undoubtedly is designed to attract younger viewers.
Koppel understands ABC's thinking. In various goodbye interviews detailing the end of another TV era, he has reminded people that TV is a business designed to sell commercials.
The new version won't be your father's "Nightline," which started during the Iranian hostage crisis and was always there to put national and international crises and issues in context.
Koppel conceded on Wolf Blitzer's CNN program recently that he doesn't know anything about rock 'n' roll or baseball, and he acknowledged he may be accused of elitism....

Nobody wants "prestige". We want simple news.
but you gotta love that hair.
The problem with today's journalists is they're idiots, by-products of the Liberal Indoctrination Program. They lack knowledge in a variety of topics, so they go with the old stand-by of "Hey! I have a mic, let me tell you (the viewer) what I think!"
Hair? It's a beaver pelt.
Should've spent a little more and gotten the "Shatner".
That's a matter of opinion -- Koppel brought slanted and biased news to the airwaves!

Koppel who?
Good-bye and good riddance! Did anyone in America even realize this turkey was still on the air? Appropriate then that he is going out two days before Thanksgiving. And Ted, take your daughter from CNN (Andrea) with you!

Right!
Guys like him are/were all in the game, the lying game, and it will be the death of this country. There will not be enough truth spread to the ignorant masses in time.

The old established/liberal/socialist media is America's most ruthless, relentless, and destructive enemy.

Koppel warned his audience last night that after he leaves there might be just another crumby sitcom put on in his time slot........ (I think this is right)........"and you'll be sorry then."
Koppel's attraction to the truth was a comedy in itself!
Please do not be fooled. The dinosaur lives. The old media is lying and distorting more often now than ever, and the general population is more ignorant than in decades.......... a great combination for the left. The left/media/Dems. love it this way ....... keep the people stupid and repeat the lies (example -- the slow reaction of Bush to Katrina) over and over and over again (Chris Matthews was repeating that Katrina lie in Canada the other day). It is working!
The cartoon is funny, but the internet meteor is too late.
"Yet another in the 'separated at birth' series..."
Hmm,since Ted was born in England, you just may be on to something.:)
