MONACO -- Prince Albert II of Monaco was enthroned Saturday, completing the formal succession in a process that began in July and marks the beginning of the playboy prince's reign of the tiny European principality.
Albert, the 47-year-old son of Prince Rainier and Hollywood actress Grace Kelly, was sworn in as head of state in July after a three-month mourning period for his father, who died on April 6 at the age of 81 after having ruled for 55 years.
"Today is a day of joy in Monaco," Monsignor Bernard Barsi, the archbishop of Monaco, said during the ceremony at the Roman Catholic cathedral. The church was the site of Rainier's marriage to Grace, who was killed in a car crash in 1982.
The archbishop said that Albert was a worthy heir to a dynasty that has led the principality for more than seven centuries.
Revelations about the prince's love life, involving an admission that he had an illegitimate son with a French flight attendant of Togolese origin, had threatened to overshadow his investiture in July.

Prince Albert II of Monaco is an ally. He is pro-American and a supporter of the Iraq War.
He is half American; he is the son of Grace Kelly and Prince Ranier. He is American educated ( college and graduate school)and has always been a strong supporter of America, American business and way of life.
Well, let him out!

Monaco is smaller than Hyde Park, but its people are still better off than those of the UK. Albert can go out in a moderate wind without having his ears ripped off and there is no evidence that he talks to plants or goes about in Arab costume. This Togolese babe almost certainly has better teeth than Camilla. It is also safe to assume that she won't wear a weed in her hair if she and Al do happen to get married.

Depends on what you mean by heir.
If you mean will the illegitimate half black child be in the line of succession for the throne . . . no, he will not. That requires a legitimate heir.
Prince Albert has said that the "succession is secure" ... meaning that, even without his having a legitimate heir, his sisters/sisters'children can succeed him [even through the female line, now, I believe].
