WASHINGTON Rep. Loretta Sanchez says she may run for governor in 2010.
The Democratic political diva of Orange County has created "People for Loretta 2010," a political committee that allows her to raise money for a governor's race.
"I think I need to go home and fix my state," the Santa Ana Democrat said in an interview on Friday. "I'm just keeping my options open. People know I love California. I come home every weekend."
Despite taking this step, Sanchez isn't saying she's definitely going to run.
"It's a ways off. I'm putting a marker down," she said. If the Democrats capture the House majority she might decide to stay, she said. Or she might leave government and go back to the private sector.
"I know if I want to run statewide I need to start raising the money now," Sanchez said. "I'm not a self-funded candidate."
Some experts told about Sanchez's new committee chuckled at the notion but said don't count her out.
"Loretta Sanchez is always a lot of fun," said Jack Pitney, a political scientist at Claremont McKenna College and a former Republican congressional staffer. "Who knows how the political stars will align in the years ahead. Five years ago in 2000 if you had told people Arnold Schwarzenegger would be governor, I don't think many people would have taken you seriously."
Interviews with a number of political experts and consultants revealed some consensus factors in a Sanchez bid:
Demographics:Sanchez would be running in a state where women are 58 percent of the electorate. She is also a Latina. Hispanics comprise the fastest-growing voter bloc.

I'm sure Hugh Hefner will be there for her.
Loretta is living proof that brains and ability are not necessary to advancing in todays world.
She gives new meaning to the term, "airhead"
< What can she be doing in CA that is so important that she needs to travel all this much?
No way! Barbara Boxer for governor!

Just about every member of the House spends weekends back in the district. Those who don't have a hard time holding onto their seats. Newt Gingrich nearly lost in 1990 because he spent his weekends addressing conservative think-tanks instead of back in Georgia. Most fly first class, but pay for coach; they have that many frequent flier miles after a term or two.
You and I do. Times 435.
California is way to large to have just one Governor. May I suggest several co-Governors. Let's start with Ms. Sanchez then add Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein and Maxine Waters.
Being as California has so much influence on the entire west coast, they should have some co-Governors from other states. We can add Patty Murray Jim McDermott to the co-Governorship and keep them all in California and away from the rest of the country.
Most reps go home all the time. They spend a lot of days every month "on the road". My congressman, Jeff Miller of Florida, is here locally ALL the time, it seems. He's very involved in local and district matters in the Pensacola area. And that's as it should be. I heartily congratulate the HOUSE, they do the job that their constituents vote them in to do, while the SENATE fritters away our money and does nothing but preen and act silly.
If I'm not mistaken, all their flights home and back are paid for by taxpayers. It's a business expense. Not only do they travel back and forth, but they bring aides with them. Usually their families remain at the home base too.
What was/is Orange County thinking. B1 Bob, it is hard to forgive this one.
OK, so I need some more sleep...

...as the following comments under #5 appear to prove without any doubt. One can only imagine what her version of fixing CA might be.
B1 Idiot Child Dornan didn't come to his Orange County seat except for a couple of weeks before the elections. He thought he was a national player.
Still, he won every precinct but the one in OC that held all the illegals in Santa Ana. I thought there was definite voter fraud.
Still, Dornan screwed the pooch.
Does this answer your question?
Oh, for Pete's sake... HELL NO!!
Proof that Darwin was Wrong!
You know she'd win, too.
Nah. She's not running. But with all the "special" benefits paid out to "preferentialed" folks, there's just gotta be some fundraising dollars in it for her. What she'll do with that money, is another story.
Having grown up in and spent my entire life in OC, all I can say is... I'm so friggin' embarassed by Loretta Brixey-Sanchez.
