Morons In Space?
To: WestVirginiaRebel
THE contestents believe that they are taking one giant leap as space tourists. The lack of zero G doesn't even occur to them?
Sweet mercy...

This is so wrong on several levels. It's just a cruel hoax that will make these poor saps fools on national TV. It also doesn't do anything to promote real space tourism, it makes it a joke. In a few years it will be possible to send people in space on sub-orbital rockets, why pull a fake stunt like this now? Wait until the real deal arrives, it won't be long.

In order to convince the contestants that they are going to Russia for a fortnights training, the producers say, they will be taken on a helicopter night flight. In reality they will fly for hours around Britain on a carefully mapped flightpath over the sea and unpopulated areas so that they do not recognise any landmarks.Star City is 25 miles from Moscow. Moscow is 1,500 miles from London. The trip from London to Star City would be about 12 hours by helicopter. Why on earth would anyone take a helicopter from London to Star City? There are regularly scheduled airline flights from London to Moscow.
Why make an abandoned air base look like Star City, when the Russians, who would sell the grandmothers for a buck, would no doubt rent out Star City to Hollywood?
The name "Space Cadets", seems appropriate for this show. These people have to be pretty stupid.

Sad thing is, since Virgin Galactic is doing a real space tourism business they could have an actual show with actual people trying out for the real ride.
'Reality' TV SUX!

If they really want to reach "near space", why go to all of the trouble, the training, the discomfort, the danger of rocket travel?
I'd be more than happy to sell them a bridge to near space.
