Immigration activists packed a City Council hearing yesterday to demand noncitizens be allowed to vote in municipal elections — an idea Mayor Bloomberg vehemently opposes.

The council is considering whether to let residents who've been in the city six months or longer vote in local elections.

An estimated 1 million New Yorkers, about 20 percent of the adult population, don't have voting rights, although they pay $18.2 billion a year in state income taxes, the activists said

Voting is a priveledge of citizenship, not tax paying. NYC already controls the state; this would destroy it completely. If they want to vote, become a citizen. And 6 months? I never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life. That's just an extended vacation.

The RAT party has supported this for years. Recall how Bubba gave the right to vote to a few million back in 96.

Another moron proposal... Doesn't matter what they pay in income taxes! The bottom line continues to be: Do they pay more in income taxes than they receive in direct benefits from all levels of government?

... if I don't have to pay any of it I'm all for every fracking tax increase proposed!

We do not have a truly functional democracy when . . . over 70 percent of the voting-age population of certain ethnicities and election districts can't vote," said Bryan Pu-Folkes, of New Immigrant Community Empowerment, before the council's Government Operation's Committee.

They pay taxes because they live there and increase the need for services because of their presence.

Voting is a right granted to citizens. If you want to vote, do everything you can to become a citizen . . . or go back to the country of your citizenship and vote.

Oh, so they only want people who pay net positive taxes to vote? I could go along with that...

How long before they demand, in all seriousness, for citizens of the world to have a vote in U.S. elections?? Kerry and the "global test" crowd would love that.

Unconstitutional. The Constitution specifically states the voting is the right of CITIZENS. If they want to vote they need to amend the Contitution...(which will not happen...)...although I'm sure they'll try to use the courts instead.

IDIOTS! Not until if and when they are citizens. People need to quit changing the laws for every little group that doesn't like something. If our laws don't appeal to these people, go the hell back where you came from. It sort of reminds me of having a dinner party and you are serving roast pheasant and one of your guests brings along some friends (uninvited) who immediately state they want steaks . Do you change the menu for UNINVITED guests? NO YOU DO NOT ! They either live with the dinner choice, or carry their butts back where they came from.

This was already proposed by Leftists in England in the last U.S. national election. Their reasoning was that since U.S. policies affect the entire world, they should be allowed to vote.

Reject the tax argument completely. They are non-citizens. What other country or government would ever even consider giving voting rights to non-citizens? NONE!

The argument is baseless no matter what other side argument is thrown. If they want to vote, they must first become citizens. Period.
