It is high time for European officials and the rest of us to understand that Islamism is about sedition, not religion, and that it needs to be treated as such. Extremists preaching violence and jihad against their fellow citizens should be thrown in jail, and radical organizations, subversive "charities," and hate-preaching mosques should be closed down
Not too long ago, the conventional wisdom was that Europe was going to emerge as a unified and mighty economic and political superpower. We were told it would engage in earnest, if friendly, competition with the United States, but that — thanks to its substantially larger population and productive capacity — the European Union (EU) would inevitably displace America on the world stage.
It took less than a fortnight of rioting in France, and now in several other countries of what Donald Rumsfeld has called "Old Europe," to lay bare the preposterousness of this prospect. Even before Islamists first took to the streets of Parisian suburbs, the EU was a house of cards waiting to be toppled, or burned down.
As usual, underlying conditions are clearer with hindsight. It is now unmistakable that Europe faces a "perfect storm" of socio-economic, demographic, military and Islamist challenges. As a result, the European Union is poised in the coming decades to become, at best, a strife-ridden, second-rate power, unwilling or unable to help defend the Free World. Alternatively, it may simply cease to exist as an entity, or perhaps cease even to be part of the Free World.

Second, there is the problem of a separate, mostly hostile religion, whereas American immigrants, for the most part, are Christian and even if Mexican and/or illegal, certainly not hostile to the U.S. religious structure. That is not the case in France.
France's question, therefore, must be what to do with this huge Islamicized, mostly hostile minority. They DO NOT want to "be French." How do you revoke citizenship of people who have not been convicted of committing crimes? It is a massive dilemma.

Yes...this is the rhetoric we need to adopt right now. Islam as an ideology and not a religion!
It seems to me that much of world history can be summed-up as follows;

Yes, it is a superb warning to the U.S. not to allow a population in that has no intention of amalgamating and assimilating.

The thing that is lacking in either our Mexican illegal population or our native black disaffected population is ideological motivation. Although there are many Islamic groups working hard to make Mexican converts - in Chiapas, for example - I don't think it's ever going to seriously take off among Mexicans. As for African-Americans, while there is a significant Black Muslim hard-core in the prisons and slums, I don't think it has or will become generally acceptable to the majority of blacks, even in ghetto areas. While some blacks may deny that they are really Americans first, they are, and they think like other Americans and accept the general freedoms and objectives of American culture, whether they acknowledge it or not.
The thing that is keeping France burning is Islam, which has got to be one of the most pernicious and violent ideologies ever launched on the face of this earth, right up there, IMHO, with Marxism.

Islam is NOT a religion and muslims should not have the protections afforded religions in the US because islam impinges on the right to life, liberty and religious freedom. We can argue for weeks about whether islam is a religion but the only arguments favoring islam are the propaganda spewed by muslims and muslim appeasers. Islam is a terrorist organization.
gosh, i hate to be a realist, it really sucks sometimes, but i am fairly well convinced that our, conservative, ideas on this issue with islam are not going to happen. so, if im right, the question we need to start addressing is how do we manage the future? if im wrong, well, thats just me being a dummy, no one need be alarmed. i for one know that our govt is not going to see this threat for what it is until its way to late. yes we can nuke them at some point, but that is not really victory. this rush to globalize everything imo is one of the main culprits vis a vis the muslims vs us. that entire area was best left poor, destroyed and isolated, say again, ISOLATED, so tehy could live in their hovels facing a black rock. we brought them in with us, they never desired this interaction, and we, the govt just doenst get it.

Regardless of whether any government wakes up to the reality of islam, it will come down to the question of whether we value living free more than muslims value the euphoric high they get from their barbaric false religion....and whether we, citizens, have armed ourselves sufficiently to make up for the lack of government protection.
Wait a minute...wasn't there a fellow named Slobodan, who fought the same islamism the authors are speaking of, and in what disgraceful way did the West respond?
The riots in France and other european countries , the bombings in London, are being followed by whispers in Serb coffee shops throughout belgrade that say ,"We Tried To Warn You".
It must not have been high time enough for the dumb western europeans, back then, but now all of sudden it is.
