I went to pick up a fishing buddy two hours away today and passed by the school on the way home. I was stuck in traffic as they had the school and surrounding areas locked down. Lots of people crying, looking sad, and lots of TV trucks there.

This is so sad. Ironically I just this morning was posting on a thread about how nothing really big newsworthy happens in my small town.

So sad ... .

Idiots will just believe that removing guns will cure this heart/mind. If they take away the guns they'll just use something else ... so sad. This is one EXTREMELY troubled soul.

Careful what you wish for . . . prayers being sent to the families of these men and the men themselves.

I realize the perp was a juvenile, but I am wondering why there are no pictures of the shooter. Could it be political correctness rearing its ugly head?? Or something else?

Assistant principal killed in Campbell County

By: Duncan Mansfield/The Associated Press | Oak Ridger Staff

JACKSBORO, Tenn. (AP) — A student shot and killed an assistant principal and seriously wounded two other administrators at Campbell County High School on Tuesday, officials said. The student was arrested.

Assistant Principal Ken Bruce was fatally wounded, according to state Education Department spokeswoman Rachel Woods.

Principal Gary Seale, who was shot while trying to take the student into custody, was in serious condition, and Assistant Principal Jim Pierce was in critical condition at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, hospital spokeswoman Lisa McNeal said.

Several students identified the shooter as a 14-year-old freshman.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately known, Sheriff Ron McClellan told WVLT-TV.

“We don’t know yet. I have the individual at the hospital,” McClellan said. “These men are all fine Christian men, and I am at a loss for words.”

No students were injured, Campbell County Board of Education co-chairman Homer Rutherford said.

“It’s saddening. There has been nothing this drastic in the time I’ve been on the board,” said Rutherford, who has served nine years on the school board.

The school, located about 30 miles northwest of Knoxville, was locked down after the shooting.

“There’s traffic everywhere, and there are people running up and down the road,” said Roger Wallace, a driver at a pizza restaurant near the school.

“There’s at least 300 to 400 people. You can’t see the end of the traffic.”
Wallace said he saw the students being evacuated from the high school and loaded onto buses.

“They are searching each student as they are getting on the buses,” he said.

Courtney Ward, a 17-year-old student at the school, said Seale “got on the intercom and told us we were in lockdown. He was out of breath, and you could tell something was wrong.”
“It’s scary,” Ward said. “You hear about it happening, but you never really imagine it happening at your school.”

Tuesday’s shooting is the second fatal shooting of a school employee in Tennessee this year.

Stewart County school bus driver Joyce Gregory, 47, was killed as she stopped to pick up a student on her route on March 1. Jason Clinard, 15, is charged with murder in the case and will be tried as an adult.
In August a boy was accidentally shot in the leg in a middle school restroom in Sullivan County. The investigation into that incident led police to charge two students in a plot to kill a teacher at Maury Middle School.

“I want to begin by saying that Andrea and I are profoundly shocked and saddened by the tragedy this afternoon in Jacksboro,” Gov. Phil Bredesen said this afternoon.
“I’ve spoken with my education commissioner, Lana Seivers, who is monitoring the situation closely. I’ve asked Commissioner Seivers to begin readying a response team that will stand ready to assist the school, the community and the entire county during this time of crisis and sorrow.

“Our first priority is the children, faculty and staff that call Campbell County High School home. We are doing everything we can to help ensure they have the access to the support services and counseling they need as quickly as possible.

“You know, people still expect to be safe and expect for their children and loved ones to be safe at school. I remember very clearly a similar experience a decade or so ago when I was mayor of Nashville. We had a parent send her middle school son to school to get an education, only to have him leave there in a body bag. That something like that could happen in a school was unthinkable then and it is the same today.

“To the families of the victims, and to all of the people of Campbell County, please know that the prayers of every Tennessean are with you this afternoon.”

I was typing it fast, I know how to spell it correctly.

Least of my worries now (I''m still typing fast and will probably make more mistakes) . I knew the man who was killed.

They just showed the 14-year-old boy being put into the squad car. He is a little boy with glasses. They just said one of the injured assistant principles was shot tackling the kid.

The other two are in critical condition and may not survive.

HangNJudge,

I'm here in Campbell County, live outside Jacksboro. Passed by the high school about an hour after this happened. Got stuck in traffic, it was crazy, I couldn't figure out what was going on.

I was on my way back from Greene County, where I picked up my fishing buddy. We are going fishing tomorrow close to here.

My buddy is a WWII vet, won a Silver Star as an Army sharpshooter. He took out a whole bunch of Japanese machine gunners and saved a lot of American guy's lives.

Him and one other sharpshooter saved a lot of guys, the other guy was shot dead and he didn't get hit.

Not only is he a bass-fishing machine, he also has some really interesting stories to tell. I fish with him and record his tales, he is one of my favorite subjects to write about.

Are you watching the local news? Did you see the shot of the kid who did the shooting?
