A downtown jewelry store owner fought off two men who tried to rob him at gunpoint this afternoon, shooting one dead and seriously wounding the other, authorities said.
"The owner sustained a gunshot wound to the hand and is in OK condition," LAPD Sgt. Catherine Plows told KCAL television, "one was shot dead, and the other was shot in the neck," Plows said.
The shooting in the 400 block of West 7th Street took place just before 2 p.m., police said, at the Lucky Gems store.

This outrageous story promotes discrimmination against the diverse armed robbery community. That merchant should be put away on charges!
OReilly was on tonight debating a San Francisco gun grabber - I think it was a councilperson. He ripped her a new one. As they were closing, he started yelling, "get a gun!"
He said the New Orleans riots opened his eyes to the 2nd amendment. He said you can't let government defend you.
She made a real fool of herself - when O'Reilly said what would she do in a bad neighborhood in NO during the hurricane, she said strengthen penalties for gun crime. He gave that all the respect it deserved.
I know a lot of people don't like BOR but this is worth catching on the rerun tonight.
She had nothing to say. She's an idiot...cannon fodder for Bill.
Another cheerful story! Thanks.
I've bought several pieces of jewelry in the LA Jewelry District (I get in trouble with the wife from time to time). There is a lot of bling in the area of 6th and Hill. I always thought those shop owners were packing.
I tried to watch O'Reilly the night he was supposed to have Phil Donahue on but it was precluded by that heroic airplane landing.
Hopefully I'll catch this one at 11pm.
I missed Bill's conversion. He was anti-RKBA. Just to confirm, he's now pro 2nd amendment?
That will be a welcome change in O'Reilly's opinions.
I wonder what the LA county attorney will charge the jeweler with?
I think he's still a little iffy on concealed carry but as far as defending your castle he's all for it.
Well not really, the taxpayers are going to be on the hook for fixing the second fool up.....
at the Lucky Gems store...
"The owner sustained a gunshot wound to the hand and is in OK condition..."
All's OK at the OK Corral. This guy was good. Two perps, apparently with guns, try to rob him. He plugs them both, and suffers only a wound to the hand.
Only a true idiot believes that laws prevent crimes.
~~ping~~
I'm glad one of the robbers got what he deserved and the other one hopefully got a clue to reform his ways. But, it's sad that the owner's hand was injured, since jewelry often involves very delicate handiwork.
