This story is a week old but I searched and didn't see anything posted.

$80K...in cash...going to Pakistan? Very curious,indeed!
To: Excuse_My_Bellicosity
The first question of course: who put $80K in a checked bag?

The owner of the money did not declare the cash but Ryan said he was never asked if he had anything to declare and likely will not be charged with a crime. The real story was how easy it to move 80,000 large out out of the US and when caught get an apology.

The irony is that he probably thwarted resources getting into the hands of muslim terrorists intent to kill the very people he's paid to protect.

No, it was posted.
Maybe nothing came up in search because it's so old? Plus, last week the Mods said "search" gets 'funny' at times. Maybe it's acting up again.

Thanks for posting. I don't see it on FR either. I remember it on Drudge about a week ago.

Well, at least now I know how to get money out of the US without Ungle Sugar dipping into my pocket: Use a courier from a Muslim country to move the cash offshore.
Apparently, political correctness can be a two edged sword for government.

I wonder if the $80,000 was declared...?

I don't even put in a little souvenier in my checked bags. I'm gonna put CASH in there? Much less 80k? Wow...what a dufus.

The owner should be charged with a crime as well - the law requires that you declare any amount greater than $10,000

The screener could have just said he thought it was drug money, and he's seizing it. It's a good enough excuse for cops, anyway.

Two more items on this story:
"The $80,000 was in $100 bills, authorities said.
The owner of the cash-stuffed baggage runs a gift shop in Manhattan, officials said."
and
"The owner of the money did not declare the cash but Ryan said he was never asked if he had anything to declare and he will likely not be charged with any crime."

The Paki never declared the money ... and he gets off scot free. There must be more to this story than meets the eye.

Glad to see this Pakastani supporting the U.S. dollar currency value. It could have been Euros!
