Scapegoat to the world
National Post (Canada) ^ | 9/17/05 | Alan Dershowitz

Posted on 10/28/2005 10:38:07 PM PDT by abu afak

The hard Left's compulsive need to single out Israel for what is often undeserved condemnation is damaging the human rights movement, weakening the anti-war movement and wounding other progressive causes such as feminism. By heaping disproportionate blame for the evils of the world on the Jewish state, these anti-Israel zealots are not only ignoring the real problems faced by many, they are also providing excuses to the perpetrators of real evils.

Consider, for example, a recent report by Amnesty International ("AI") on violence perpetrated against Palestinian women by Palestinian men in the West Bank and Gaza. The report purported to be "part of the global AI campaign to stop violence against women." Such violence is a serious problem, especially in the Arab and Muslim world, because so few leaders within these groups are prepared to condemn it and so many even justify it as a necessary means of maintaining family honour and male dominance.

The AI report documents honour killings of women who had been raped. In one such case, a 17-year-old girl was murdered by her own mother after she was "repeatedly raped by two of her brothers." In another case, a 21-year-old "was forced to drink poison by her father" when she was found to be pregnant.

The AI report places substantial blame for these and other killings on -- you guessed it -- Israel! ..."

Too many strange bedfellows amongst the hard left. Even Dershowitz is now getting the picture.

Here in , is the Liberals/MSM/Feminist/AI problem in this situation.

If they continue to blame Israel, this is what the Bible has to say about it.
Genesis 12 (King James Version)

Genesis 12

1. Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

2. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

3. And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Dershowitz has been fighting the Left on the issue of Israel and Fairness for several years now.. perhaps 5 or 6, culminating last year with his book "The Case for Israel".

It's because leftists are cowards at heart. The muslims have got them intimidated, so they are trying to curry favor with the muslims in hopes that the crocodile will eat them last.

Even Crawford, Tex., vigil-keeper Cindy Sheehan could not resist the temptation to blame terrorism on Israel: "You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you'll stop the terrorism." The fact that 9/11 preceded Iraq and Palestinian terrorism began years before there was any occupation does not seem to matter to those determined to blame the Jewish state for the world's ills

International conferences on feminism, apartheid, slavery and environmentalism have been unable to agree on anything other than condemnation of Israel.

So glad Alan Dershowitz has finally awakened and is acknowledging what the rest of us has known for a very long time.

Ah, Alan. you have to understand. They cannot stop blaming the Jews! That would be completely out of character.

I'm sorry:
But please don't make this a biblical epic.

I sincerely hope that at some time during the present conflict, at some time marking the climax of that conflict, the heavens will split and the hand of God will smite the bad guys.

In the meantime, true western liberalism (small government, free economy), and Judeo-Christian values will be dealing with islam and socialist (fascist, central control over BOTH society and economy; the 'left') attacks on a daily, quite secular, basis.

I hope you are right.
I hope we win.
But I'd rather set my defenses behind an open field and on an elevated position than behind a wall of dogma that squarely faces a similar wall.

In most aspects, we agree, Liberalism/MSM/moon bats are our enemy, but, how ever you want to view this, those who harm, curse, or deal badly with Israel , GOD will curse and deal with.

On Aug. 23, 2005, I spoke with Donatella Rovera, who is AI's researcher on Israel and the Occupied Territories and asked her to provide the data on which she had based her conclusion that violence against women had escalated to an "unprecedented level" during the occupation, and especially during its most militarized phase. I also asked her whether AI had compared violence against women in the occupied West Bank and Gaza with violence against women in unoccupied Arab-Muslim areas that have comparable populations, such as Jordan.

It would also be extremely interesting to compare the rates in the Palestinian areas to such violence among Israeli Arabs, for which we probably have good data available.

"Honor Killings' of daughters in Jordan have been going on since time began. Why doesnt AI talk about that. What about the killings in Iran? Israel as well? Politics has clouded everything they do. They have trivialized everything they touch by injecting politics and not being impartial. Fools.

Commodifying Honor in Female Sexuality: Honor Killings in Palestine

Suzanne Ruggi

The family constitutes the fundamental building-block of Palestinian society. Family status is largely dependent upon its honor, much of which is determined by the respectability of its daughters, who can damage it irreparably by the perceived misuse of their sexuality

Every year, hundreds of women and girls are murdered in the Middle East by male family members. The honor killing-the execution of a female family member for perceived misuse of her sexuality-is a thorny social and political issue. Palestinian activists campaigning for equality find it difficult to stop the killings altogether. Legitimacy for such murders stems from a complex code of honor ingrained in the consciousness of some sectors of Palestinian society.

Given that honor killings often remain a private family affair, no official statistics are available on the practice or its frequency. According to a November 1997 report of the Woman's Empowerment Project published in Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, there were 20 honor killings in Gaza and the West Bank in 1996. One representative of the group added, "We know there are more but no one publicizes it." Similarly, an unofficial report given to the Palestinian Women's Working Society stated that "recently" 40 women have been killed for honor in Gaza. The report defined neither the period in which these murders took place nor the exact circumstances.

During the Summer of 1997, Khaled Al-Qudra, then Attorney General in the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), told Sout Al-Nissa' (Women's Voices), a supplement published by the Women's Affairs Technical Committee (WATC), that he suspects that >> 70 percent of all murders in Gaza and the West Bank are honor killings. ..." <
