Just heard Tony Snow on a local radio show on 55KRC in Cincinnati (he's from this area) prior to his own show. He listed candidates for SCOTUS, but he put Janice Rogers Brown at the bottom of the list. He felt that it would be great entertainment like the Jerry Springer Show, but not very edifying as a Constitutional exercise.
Ping.

That issue that will make Bush uncomfortable with Brown is that she is fundamentally libertarian rather than conservative. I personally think she'd be a great pick...let the Dimwits become once again identified with trashing a qualified minority...let's hope that Kleagle Byrd waxes eloquent on the issue.
She would get confirmed. She was already approved by the "gang of 14" for the appeals court, so it would be tough for them to vote against her now.
maggief has done some homework for today's Show ;-)
There are plenty of good candidates out there. Hopefully the President will nominate someone who can get confirmed. I'm sure that if Luttig or McConnell is nominated that we'll see very little dissent -- except from a few who want a food fight.
Luttig, Luttig, Luttig!!!!!!

Redemptive Revenge
Read:
|
In Rumors Of Another World, Philip Yancey tells a story that illustrates the kind of "revenge" Paul spoke about in Romans 12:20, when he said that showing kindness to an enemy will "heap coals of fire on his head."
When Nelson Mandela became president of South Africa, he appointed a commission to bring to trial those who had been guilty of atrocities during the time of apartheid. Any white officer who voluntarily faced his accusers and confessed his guilt would not be punished.
One day an aged woman was brought face-to-face with the officer who had brutally murdered her only son and her beloved husband. Asked what she wanted from him, she said, "Although I have no family, I still have a lot of love to give." She requested that he visit her regularly so she could mother him. Then she said, "I would like to embrace him so he can know that my forgiveness is real."
Yancey writes that as the elderly woman made her way to the witness stand, the officer became so overwhelmed with shame and remorse that he fainted. The pain that woman inflicted was not sinful revenge but the purifying fire of a God-given love that can lead to repentance and reconciliation. That's redemptive revenge. Herb Vander Lugt
Christian love gives and forgives.
Did you do the Show Thread yet?
:-) I am a quick poster, yes it's there!
Here would be a possible reason: If she's liked well enough and viewed by the conservative base as having the right stuff, nominating her could arouse them enough to pressure their wobbly RINO senators to do the right thing. Since failure to get reelected is the only thing they fear, figure out which levers to pull to make that fear push them into doing the right thing for a change, instead of caving like usual.
That's precisely why I like her so much! ;)
Tony Snow doesn't have his head on straight.
Janice Rogers Brown is one of the few potential nominees who already has real Supreme Court experience, having served on the Supreme Court of our country's most populous and diverse state, California.
Speaking as an "Uber-Con", a monkey could have thrown a dart at a list of a hundred candidates and come up with a better nomination than Harriet Miers.
Hopefully, this time, the monkey will be submitting the short list, and not Andy Card.

Before anyone starts counting votes, you have to consider whether the candidates want the job or not. That may have a lot to do with the lists being so short.
Any cute stories about Nelson's wife, Winnie, and her team of murderers masquerading as a soccer team? Not too much forgiveness involved there. Alot of murder and corruption instead...including some old fashion necklacings (burning tires around victims' necks).
