Latest twist in Cheney scandal

WASHINGTON - New questions over Vice President Dick Cheney's alleged role in a CIA leak scandal have bombarded the White House as it braces for a special prosecutor to decide whether to indict trusted Bush administration aides.

With Washington gripped by anticipation over prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's next move, expected by Friday, a New York Times report put the powerful vice president closer than ever to the drama.

Cheney told his chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, about CIA spy Valerie Plame, whose cover was later blown during the political firestorm sparked by claims that the Bush administration exaggerated the case for war with Iraq in 2003, the paper said.

After Plame's name later found its way into news reports, her husband, former diplomat Joseph Wilson, claimed senior Bush aides exposed his wife in revenge for his criticism of the intelligence used to justify the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Knowingly outing a covert operative is a crime in the United States.

Bush ignored a reporter's shouted question on the Times report, and his spokesman Scott McClellan refused to confirm or deny it, while warning: "Just because I'm not commenting on it doesn't mean you should read anything into that one way or the other."

McClellan was also asked by reporters whether Cheney always told Americans the truth.

"Yes," he said. "The vice president, like the president, is a straightforward, plainspoken person."

That's a pretty blatant fabrication.

Is it illegal for the VP to talk about personnel with his chief of staff, even covert personnel? Seems to me that situations would arise in which he practically HAD to do so.

More press retards that don't seem to understand that the Vice President and his Chief of Staff have the clearances and authority to discuss these types of matters with each other.

Good God, can the press get any stupidier?

Regarding the Vice-President--there is NO scandal The only issue is Wilson blaming everyone except himself for blabbbing about his wife's "supposed" undercover status. Wilson continues to try to turn political hay into Democrat gold, over nothing.

What should be investigated is what Wilson spent his time doing in Niger. Bet he didn't even look into the WMDs & just came back to report there wasn't a problem...again for himself & political reasons. What experience did he have with such issues anyway? Was he a weapons expert?

I think this has been the intent all along. The MSM and dems have wanted this investigation to lead to impeachment. Facts, evidence and reason are not needed, apparently, to do that. I believe our founding fathers would be ashamed of our current media and dem party.

I think Dick Cheney has been wonderful and maybe he hasnt done anything illegal. But the question I have is if in fact what the NYT said about Cheney telling Libby about Plame is true. Then why was Libby saying that he got it from a journalist? Why didnt Cheney stand up and say that Libby didnt get it from a journalist and he got it from him instead? Maybe Im totally of base with this I dont know. Im not throwing Cheney under the bus I just dont understand.

Should I hear or read this one more time I will believe every word of it.

That will be inspite of that Plame bimbo sitting at a desk, out in the open for all to see, and the fact that the British government also had evidence of Saddams WMD attempts, the truth be damned.

"Fitzgerald has been in Washington since Monday and over the last two days dispatched FBI agents to conduct some 11th-hour interviews including one set of interviews occurred in the neighborhood of Bush administration critic Joseph Wilson, whose wife Valerie Plame was outed as an undercover CIA officer. Agents asked neighbors whether they had any inkling that Plame works for the CIA."

CNN just reported that it's unlikely any indictments, announcements, or other actions, will be coming today.

"Since when is it a "Cheney Scandal"????"

Ever since Joe Wison (nee Plame) came back from Africa, got on TV spewing bilge and stating, amomg other things, that the VP sent him there.

Cheney then had some meetings to find out who in the hell this Joe Wilson (nee Plame) was and why he was spewing this garbage.

What the heck ... aren't you hip? ;)

"That's a pretty blatant fabrication."

They are putting all this BS out so that when nothing comes of this mess, they can say the facts are in but the prosecutor was afraid to bring charges or some such line.

Becuse there is no way they are going to get Rove and the general public hasn't heard of Scooter Libby much less care about him.
