Suspicious Vehicle Forces Evacuation on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON - A suspicious van is forcing the evacuation of about 1,000 people at a building on Capitol Hill. The vehicle is reported to be in the 100 block of First Street, NW.

The Associated Press reports an unidentified man who claimed to have a suspicious device in his car has been taken into custody.

Brian Doyle, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, said hazardous materials teams had been dispatched to the site.

The evacuation is occurring at 101 Constitution Ave., NW. in a building that houses various private sector companies.

WTOP's Capitol Hill Correspondent Dave McConnell who is near the scene says everybody is leaving calmly the building.

Two sources tell CNN that a man in a van is claiming to have a bomb.

The U.S. Capitol is not involved in the evacuation.

Acording to a Captiol Police alert sent to Senate staff, several streets are closed in the area, including Delaware and Constitution Avenue (Southbound); 3rd Street and Constitution Avenue, NE (Westbound); Louisiana and Constitution Avenue, NW (Eastbound).

No problem, it's quite apparent...

10 x 5 = 50

50 + 21 = 71

71 + one terrorist = 72 or the number of vigins and mother-in-laws awaiting him in his heaven.

Upon further revew it was learned that the unidentified man was in fact a driver for Sen. Edward Kennedy amd the suspicious device was discovered to be a case of scotch for the Massachusetts Democrat. "I didn't say I have a bomb," said the driver following the incident. "I said let's get bombed."

Okay, I'll buy that.

But answer me this: why does the report say he "claimed to have a suspicious device in his car"?

Did he just find a "device" in his car and decide it looked suspicious? Did he have a toaster or an alarm clock on his backseat and suddenly realize it was acting suspiciously? Maybe he stepped out of the car and shouted "I have a suspicious device in my car and I am not afraid to use it!"
