Workers begin the job of repairing the roof of the Superdome. The Dome will undergo temporary repairs to gaping holes in its massive roof. An architectural firm is set to be picked next week and it will come up with a plan for restoring the stadium.

If they fix anything at all, it will be unfair to the things not fixed at the same time.

Best to just leave everything as it fell, and give $200 billion back to the taxpayers.

I don't think New Orleans is really going to need the Superdome next year, anyway...

Yeah, it is utterly wrong to fix the businesses and get the tax base back up before bankrupting the city with entitlement handouts.

I think fixing the roof is not a bad idea; if you do not the entire structure will go bad; if they can repair the roof and then hold off on other repairs it may be prudent. As stadiums go it was one of the nicer looking 1970-80s period built IMHO.

If the repairs are to prevent further water incursion and futhere damage, then doing it ASAP may actually make sense. Spend a little now to save a lot later.

OTOH, the Saints may decide to stay in San Antonio and be renamed the Big Drunks (after Sam Houston's Indian nickname). :)

It shouldn't take an architectural firm too much time or money for this project. They can use the blueprints from the original construction of the stadium. I hope that they get a refund from the original architectural firm. The roof FAILED to survive a CAT4 Hurricane. While it was supposed to be designed to survive a CAT5 Hurricane.

I wish the article addressed whether some of the damage was caused by the evacuees who inhabited the DOME for 5-6 days.
Reports during the week after Katrina told of massive vandalism in all of the structures used as shelters.
