SAN FRANCISCO (NNS) -- The Friends of the Fleet Foundation of San Francisco welcomed Sailors for Fleet Week at the San Francisco City Hall Oct. 9 with a special "Most Valuable Player Luncheon."
Guest speakers Tom Brady Sr. (father of New England Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady Jr.) and Rick Ambrose (from event sponsor Lockheed Martin) mingled with the specially-invited Sailors and Coast Guardsmen, and Ambrose related stories of valor from all the nation's sea services.
"Our goal is to salute our Sailors and just say 'thank you,'" said Steve Ware, one of the event organizers. "Anything we can do to show our appreciation, we try to do."
Brady said he owed a ton of respect to all Sailors, and had much admiration and confidence that America's security was in good hands.
Ambrose said, "It is the character and valor that is fostered in our uniformed services and people like yourselves who ascribe to a set of values, of deep-down, core values of honor, courage and commitment that allows us to do so well as a country.
"Thank you for your dedication to the routine [of military service], interspersed with calls for valor, and for sacrificing time away from your families to defend ours."
He went on to say how grateful Americans were for the daily impact on living their lives normally, knowing and trusting that the Navy and Marines will not fail them.
Lt. Aaron Running, assistant officer in charge of the Department of Naval Science at the California Maritime Academy said, "It feels good to be appreciated and to know that there are people out there who don't forget about us and are willing to give back."
Sonar Technician (Surface) 3rd Class Phillip Slocum, a Sailor from USS Hopper (DDG 70) said this was not his first visit to Fleet Week, but it was a remarkably good one, and people he met were treating them well.
"Everyone's been so friendly; this has to be the most outgoing port I've visited," said Slocum. "I really want to thank the people of San Francisco for all of this. We appreciate it a lot."
"Helloooooooo, thailorth!!!"
In Frisco it's allll about the seamen.
eeeew!! I majored in gross and that's just eeew!
The Navy put on a great show --I know, because I was there. That this Navy guy said praised his treatment in the Bay Area speaks to his good character, but that he could say it in spite of the crazy, commie-loving Al-GAYda that run SF (and who rejected hosting the USS Iowa behind Fisherman's Warf) is plainly over the top.
hehehe...sorry. It seemed to fit somehow, with the replies so far.
