80% of Potential SCOTUS Nominees on W's List Decline His Offer
Fox News | 10-11-05 | freedom4me

Posted on 10/11/2005 9:08:44 PM PDT by freedom4me

During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

Or worse, even if you hadn't done anything worth extortion, would you want your family to go through what they can come up with out of whole cloth?

Coke cans and such...

"It's all about the judges! So I'll nominate a crony because I'm afraid of Jim Jeffords and Olympia Snowe! Reelect me!"

And if he had, whom would you have voted for?

Dobson isn't a politician, is he? I mean, I know who he is and what he does - I just don't know why anyone would consider him a politician, and I was wondering if he ran for something and I missed it...which is highly unlikely, but I've been wrong before!

In any case, you're right. He's not a liar.

Hey buddy, I didn't care then what they said, and I don't care now. If someone wants to apologize, fine. I wont stay up nights waiting for it. And just to clear up the current dispute:

THE SHORT LIST WAS 5 WOMEN, 3 declined, 1 was disqualified on her history, and Miers was left holding the trophy.

Ya think anyone will believe me now? I wont hold my breath.

It's probably not just the confirmation process...try living in DC as a mover or shaker on that salary.

No, wrong. Why should these people suffer for deciding in favor of their families. The fact is, it is none of our business. These people have the right to make these decisions without our scorn or anger.

I wasn't talking about the nominees, I was talking about the RINO and Dem Senators who have created this mess.

First of all, it is highly irritating and very disappointing that Bush was resolved to appoint a woman. What difference does it make?!? Pick the best people you can find! Bush has been repeating the same lie many times in the last few days, namely that Harriet Miers has the most experience and has the superior qualifications. Those lies descend to "Baghdad Bob" territory.

I also highly doubt that the great potential nominees all declined, if Bush even bothered to talk to them. So the press slams you around for a month. So what? Are they that cowardly? Too many people run for public office for that theory to hold water.

Harriet Miers will probably not be confirmed. The real test might be if Bush makes an even worse selection.

Your post displays the divide between your faction and mine. You say it is "a judicial position." I say that it is one of nine people who will decide if this country, this republic, this idea that we call "America" continues to exist.

That's why we strict constructionists are so outraged by this nomination and why -- flawed person that I am -- I could never imagine refusing to serve if I were ever so honored as to be called to make such a contribution.

If you do not see it in these terms, stop for a moment and reflect about those of us who do.

That's incredible, but makes sense -- The DemOrats lost the White House, Senate, and House, leaving the Courts as their last trench to win battles.

but is the Hispanic a Catholic? You see, I seriously doubted that he would nominate another Catholic, because that would make five.

Consuela Callahan-don't know if she is Catholic but I did read a smary article about her when she was on the short list-she has a hobby of tap dancing and the article related how she once gave a speech and after her speech she took off her robe and climbed up on the table and did a spiffy tap dance and said, I am not a tap dancing judge. Now you just know this was taken out of context but I feared right away this story would make the rounds if she were nominated and she would be made a fool of.

I'm thinking one of the other justices has told Bush that he/she will have to leave the Bench soon and he has asked him/her to wait till he gets the O'Connor seat filled. Can you imagine the chaos if we had two vacancies simultaneously?

In a perfect world, W could name the best qualified person, be it be a WASP or whatever. But our society demands "diversity".

"I don't think this is true. As my husband says, if you've got a chance at the top job, you should take a swing at it."

This isn't a "top job" at the post office or the local Safeway. It is not a supervisors position at the telephone company or down at the docks. It is not calling the shots at the dealership or head dispatcher at the freight depot.

This is hundreds if not thousands of people (government workers, special interest groups, the press...) digging into every detail of your life. Where you went to school? What your grades were? Did you ever cheat on a test? Who you lost your virginity to? What kind of sex do you like? Have you ever had VD? Have you ever cheated on your taxes? How much do you give to your church? How often do you go to church? Do you now or have you ever had an enemy so they can interview them and bring up their allegations (true or not) on national television? Do you drink? Have you ever smoked marijuana?

And if you think you can answer each question once and be done with it you are very wrong. They will ask the same question over and over...in different ways, and if your answer, even by accident is inconsistent ("I graduated in May of 19XX" at one point and "I graduated in early June of 19XX" at another point) then they will swoop down on you as a liar.

I will put this yet another way: Is there ANYTHING in your past you are ashamed of or wish you had not done? If there is they will find it...and every person in the United States will watch you being asked about it on television.

That is what you are taking a swing at.

Look around.
---
Yeah, but to be fair, I wouldn't spin my credentials as the "first woman" this and the "first woman" that. That's just lame and smacks of the liberal mindset.

Ms. Miers should have said she did x, y and z. That would be much more impressive.

"Oh for God's sake!"

Spoken like a true coward. Way to go stinky.

It fine for our brave young men and women go die on far off battle fields but defending the Constitution here at home is just too much to ask huh?

The Distict and Circuit Court nominations put forward in February were largely carryovers from the last Congress. I have a summary and cites if you need it.

Thanks, but my insight had nothing to do with it. I just shared what I was told. I suppose there will always be those who would rather believe it was just a damn good guess?
