Well, I'm from New Orleans, so I had a head start in figuring out how to pronounce it. After all, I'm used to Tchoupitoulas Street and the Tchefuncte River. And yes, I've heard the mispronunciations of Carondelet Street.
There's a housing project in New Orleans called the Caliope projects. Most people would think Ka-LI-o-pee, but in NO they pronounce it CAL-ee-ope.
GWB is the man ~ Bump!
Thank you for letting me know about this. This is very good to know. Good to see the respect flows both ways on the chain of command. Nice to see some verification that what I see is real and not just PR. Figured it was when you see the picts of Bush or Chenney regularly sitting down with the troops not just up on a stage talking at them.
No kidding :) I live in Metairie, the dry part of the metro area. I escaped with very little damage. I have relatives living with me now, and am in the process of moving to Georgia. I am gonna probably give my father in law a good deal on the house since his was destroyed.
