With a starting manufacturer's suggested retail price of less than $10,000, the 2006 Chevrolet Aveo is the lowest-priced new car in the United States. Low price doesn't mean skimping on safety equipment anymore; some lowest-priced new cars include six standard airbags.

Or they are just making crappier cars. ;)
It takes at least 3-4 years to design and market a new model auto. There must have been some really crystal clear balls at GM, et al........
The lowest priced new cars this year will be suspiciously shipped from the gulf region and have an air freshener hanging from the mirror.
Gas purchase is a variable cost: you don't drive, you don't pay.

Yep, I bet the auctions and the wholesalers are already getting busy. Here in Washington one of the warning signs for these cars are alternate VIN numbers. When the cars are declared totaled they need to be reinspected and given new VIN numbers which are then placed inside the drivers door rather than on the dash. Whenever you see one of those you know some kind of monkey business occurred.

Guess they could add the back end for another $10k.
I still remember, in late 70's compact cars were still $8k-$10K brand new.
Ahh those good ole days I heard about as a kid ;)
All new AVEO's should also come equipped with a prayer card in the glove box. Pray to God you're never involved in a collision with this thing. Everyone should do themselves a favor and visit their local wrecking yard to see what one of these environmentally friendly POS look like after a wreck. I'll stick with our Chevy Tahoe...
I'd say car prices have outpaced inflation. I remember when I was in college that you could buy a new Ford F-150 pickup (basic V-6 model) for less than $12,000 (Canadian $), and I bought a new Nissan pickup, short cab, short box for $12,500 on the road (including 18% in sales taxes) in 1990. Even taking inflation into account you can't buy anything comparable today in adjusted dollars. OTOH, the new equivalent of those same vehicles are much better vehicles than they were 15 years ago.
That's like in "Excluding gasoline and food" There was only .3% inflation....FOR those who neither eat nor drive...LOL.......
No, it's like saying that steel is water.
You can laugh all you want.
I simply pointed out that you referred to what is a variable cost as fixed. Perhaps you meant total cost. But then there was no reason to specify it. If you do insist on using scientific terms, then at least use them correctly.
I will stick with my 2005 Corvette. :-)
I will continue to stick with my 1986 Corvette. :)
In 1969, I bought a new Subaru for $1,300.00 cash.
It was the worst car I ever owned or driven.
