Security Changes On The Way At OU (Despite 'Isolated Suicide' Theory)

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma will tighten security at Memorial Stadium after a student with explosives died in a blast within 100 yards of thousands of fans watching a football game there, the school's president said Tuesday.

Security personnel will more thoroughly search bags fans bring to the stadium, OU President David Boren said. The school will suspend for the rest of the season a policy that allows spectators to return after leaving at halftime. Officers will more closely screen vehicles that park in a garage next to the stadium.

Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, died Saturday when a device exploded about 8 p.m. as he sat on a bench outside George Lynn Cross Hall. The blast could be heard inside the stadium where more than 80,000 people attended OU's game against Kansas State.

Boren said authorities continue to believe that Hinrichs did not try to get into the stadium.

Hinrichs' father, Joel Hinrichs, Jr., of Colorado Springs, Colo., has said he's confident his son didn't intend to harm others and wasn't motivated by a political agenda. He said no suicide note was found, but that the evidence points clearly to suicide.

Boren also confirmed that law enforcement officers found dangerous materials in Hinrichs' apartment on campus and detonated this material at the police bomb range.

The Oklahoma Sooners return to the stadium on Oct. 22 when they play Baylor. They play Texas in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Saturday.

So, if this really was a "depressed" kid, this would seem much ado about nothing, huh? There must be something else here.

I'd be concerned about this game...

This game may be one reason they're being tightlipped. My understanding is that the Dallas City Council has paid out the wazoo to keep this game in Dallas. Wouldn't need any pesky war on terror warnings to get in the way of those tourism dollars.
(IF HE WAS JUST A LONELY DEPRESSED KID ACTING ALONE WHO NEVER TRIED TO GET IN THE STADIUM, WHY ARE THEY INCREASING THEIR SEARCH OF BAGS?)

This sounds like another Oklahoma City bombing coverup.

At the time of the "suicide" blast a poster here on FR was in touch with a relative outside the stadium. This relative said he was told by police on the scene that several young men (who ran away) were trying to attach explosive devices to the parked busses.

Oh, there's even more than that, but it's too much to detail.....if you've been following the OU bombing threads, you'll know.....

They obviously know more than they are publicly admitting. I hope they are taking precautions at the Cotton Bowl and the State Fair of Texas.

I go to OU. This guy has been in several of my classes, including two that I am in right now. He was a very odd guy. A real loner. In his Design class, he came up with a unique way to make tracer rounds for a 50 cal. From what I have heard around campus, he was very facinated with explosives. Several of my fellow students and I think it may have been accidental. The bench he was sitting on, is very close to the bus stop, so it is possible he was waiting for the bus and one of his devices malfunctioned.

This whole thing stinks. The fact that there is almost zero media attention on this smells like a coverup to me.

Have you heard anything about them finding jihadist materials in his apartment? I saw that posted somewhere and was wondering if you could confirm that?

As digitalbrownshirt and I reported on another thread, KOCO is also reporting that this guy tried to buy ammonium nitrate, and they had an interview with the clerk. DBS also reports channel 9 is reporting that he had been seen at the Islamic Center. His post is here.

They may very well have malfunctioned. However, there is too much other information and there have been the previous cover ups or stories that suddenly went silent in OKC (McVeigh) and at OU (Moussaoui & Berg) to not be skeptical. Not to mention a huge mosque in OKC, the Islamist Society at OU, the petrochemical program there.....

Once is coincidence, twice is suspicious and third time is enemy action.

I think it would take a lot more than a pesky terror warning to stop anyone with tickets to that game. The 'horns are hoping to finally win one against Stoops and the Sooners are hoping to end Mack Brown's NC hopes. Should be lots of fun.
