Is it just me, or is our President looking for more and more situations in which the Commander-in-Chief should be allowed to use American military forces on our own soil?

I think it's a case of "If you all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail."

They would be the only ones in a position to enforce needed quarantines. If he is mentioning this now, it is possible.

It ain't just you.

This should be a last-ditch emergency proposal - NG should be used first. A lot more people died from government last century than died in the great flu pandemic.

I wonder if it wouldn't be a bit more effective to let the local police do the enforcement and focus on medical preparedness: prevention, treatments, distribution networks and suchlike before we end up with de facto martial law.

Is it just me...

Or does the President just realize that some state governments are completely useless and incapable of responding to a true emergency.

No he isn't. For example, he wouldn't consider using them to actually secure the southern border.

It's not just you. It's beginning to make me uneasy, to say the least.

Frightening isn't it?

Just think. He's going to leave office, probably for a democrat to fill with all these sets of circumstances applicable to using military force.

What next. Sometimes I wonder...

You would be correct.

I have long been of the opinion that Bush is not conservative, but instead, part of the Crony Party. His desires to use American troops on American soil in no way jibe with the desires of most conservatives.

Either he wants more power for the C-in-C (which scares me) - and using the military in such situations that were described would be increasing the power of the C-in-C, or as glorgau said "If you all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail".

Hard to say either way.

Wasn't everyone -itching for him to after the hurricanes?! Since we're putting 'birds' under martial law how about the Canada Geese!!! I hate those things (and I love animals!).

I would have to say you're right. They sure are panting to use the military to "help" us lately. Most of ours is overseas and if I were paranoid I'd say they might be willing to borrow foriegn troops to help out. Mexicans maybe?

We believe that this is the direction things are headed. Power must be concentrated around a few, and the few is bi-partisan, yea, multi-partisan, all who believe in a globalized society.

We've had worse plagues than this in the past, and they didn't call out the Army.
