No mistake, we OWNED that debate.
The Republicans had about 35 interns and young staffers flown in from Washington D.C. to cheer for Campbell. John and Ken were not amused. As they pointed out, the paid political hacks were inside watching the show while the John and Ken audience was stuck waiting in line outside. Most of them were tossed out. There were a few Campbell supporters waiting in line but they ditched their signs and left.
Campbell snuck in though the back. Jim came in through the front, shaking hand with the people in line, and taking pictures. People were coming up to him and just saying Thank You, Jim, Thank you.
At the beginning, Campbell sounded more relaxed than Jim and had more time to talk. He also mentioned specific legislation. Then, the tone changed with Campbell talking about what he would do and Jim talking about what he has already done. At one point, Campbell was droning on and Jim put his head done like he was sleeping. Too bad it was radio but we enjoyed it.
A few of the other candidates came by to speak. The Democrat said this immigration problem was created by Republicans and we needed a Democrat. People just burst out laughing at that. I give him credit for showing up for what he knew would not be a supportive crowd
The crowd was people who know the immigration issue and knew a fraud when they saw one, Democrat or Republican.
By chance a French Film Crew was there, doing a story on Jim, the Minuteman Project and the election, so Jim had a camera crew on him the whole time, adding to the air of him being the star of the show. People were coming up to the table, asking for Jims autograph, but not John and Kens. A FOX news reporter who as been with Jim since April 1, 2005 was there doing a story.
The head of the local NAACP (!) was there to support Jim and arrange for Jim to speak at his group. He left waving a yard sign. (He also told me I was a good activist because you are pretty and the men will look at you, then read the sign. LOL!)
The stalker from the Green Party was there, filming; about five Green Party members were there. One of our ex military guys watched him all night and there were no problems. He tried to give a few Gilchrist staffers a had time, but that was quickly stopped.
We had a rally going on the comer as people drove into the hotel parking lot. Campbell had no active supporters there. We gave away tons of sign, stickers, and hats. Actually, people were coming up and asking us for them. The lobby, the exterior of the hotel became a big Gilchrist party. Older people, especially, when they saw Gilchirst staffers, would come up and say God Bless You.
Several calls came into the office while we were there, people asking how they could help.
The out of state, professional campaigners remarked over and over that they had never worked with such quality volunteers, hard working working, knowledgeable and resourceful.

Sounds like a great event. Go Jim!
Thanks for the report.

Gilchrist has the gift of clear, short, concise speech. It came across very effectively on the radio.
Campbell drones on, and on.
(They were both accountants, in previous careers.)
BTTT again.
Great after action report!
48th District FReepers need to get down to their polling place and vote!
Go Jim!
I'm voting for Campbell.
http://www.campbellforcongress.com/
Why?
Don't you think there are enough John Campbells in DC right now?
No, not by a long shot. I'd like to see Jim in Congress too, but you can only vote for one.
Hmmm...
Admittedly, Campbell beats any Dem, but the guy is not a leader on anything. Just another brick in the wall.
By electing Jim Gilchrist, we have an opportunity to shake things up going into the '06 elections.
The GOP leadership needs a good slap upside the head...and OC voters have the opportunity to administer it today.
Help us out, man.
New slogan?
No. Our slogan is a simple one: "Making our borders secure."
All we are asking is that our elected leaders simply enforce our immigration laws.
Is that too much to ask?
Obviously it is for most of them.
This article that you presented sounds to me like more liberal bias media. Gilchrist's party's platform is hard against the Iraq War. That is liberalism we don't need while we are at war and our troops are in harm's way.
Thank you,

You have no credibility here.
You signed up on FR to run a nonexistant campaign.
You claimed to be a candidate, even after the ballot was set, and your name wasn't on that particular list.
Why should anyone pay any attention to a thing you say?
