Intelligent Design Advocates Fight Back
Associated Press ^ | September 29. 2005 | JOHN HANNA

Posted on 09/29/2005 6:22:55 PM PDT by wallcrawlr

A group of Nobel Prize winners should have done more homework before criticizing proposed science standards in Kansas, advocates of the guidelines said in a letter Thursday.

Intelligent design advocates pushing new standards, which would expose students to more criticism of evolution, say the laureates' complaints are an attempt to suppress debate on the issue.

The letter was signed by Bill Harris, a professor of medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and Greg Lassey, a former middle school science teacher, who helped draft the disputed language.

"We all want good standards," the letter said. "However, demeaning rhetoric that does not address specifics but serves only to belittle and misrepresent the changes is not helpful."

Earlier this month, 38 laureates, including prominent chemists, physicists and medical experts, asked the State Board of Education to reject the proposed standards.

The laureates, led by Holocaust survivor and author Elie Wiesel, said evolution is the foundation of biology and that it has been bolstered by DNA studies.

Many scientists see intelligent design as another form of creationism, which the Supreme Court has banned from public schools.

Intelligent design theorists believe the complexity of the natural world cannot be explained except by attributing creation to some higher intelligence.

The Kansas board expects to vote this year on the standards, which will be used to develop tests for students but would allow local boards to decide how science is taught.

You shouldn't count your chickens before they evolve Professor. The issue in Dover is quite a simple one. Who sets the curriculum for the students in Dover, the school board or the technocrats. All the expert witnesses in the world can't change that because the issue is not evolution or ID, the issue is federalism.

I sometimes think that Darwinism has become a religion.

Elie is alive and kicking but unfortunately he's not a scientist, he's a writer and an activist. Thus his opinion is worth no more than yours or mine, Nobel prize not withstanding.

Yup, and it was decided the moment they ratified the 14th amendment. It's settled jurisprudence. Read the links on PH's profile page. The ACLU has proven that ID is a variety of creationism, and it has proven the school board actions had the purpose of promoting religion. That's all they had to do. The rest is settled law.

Evolutionists are like pro-aborts. It's what they live for.

"we're running up a big lead."

In response to the news, Rael was deeply saddened.

There would be a 100% probablility that that certain "someone" would find evidence of human life along with the tv or laptop.

That's not the case on Mars at the moment :-)

I didn't even know the AdMon had a profile page until you pointed it out in your post. Then I read the profile. Gulp. I should be scared:

"There are one or two individuals who, for whatever reason, enjoy signing up new accounts here every single day to post leftist drivel. Sometimes they are vanities from DemocraticUnderground. Sometimes they are articles from other far-left sources. Sometimes they are nothing but vile doctored images or profanity laced tirades. Sometimes they are from legitimate sources but happen to strike the eye of the poster as being something that would infuriate conservatives"

Reading wallcrawlr's profile, it appears to me WC's a scientist with his own opinion. If WC thinks ID is a cancer on conservatism, I'd like to hear that point of view, because I don't like backing a loser. Seems to me if WC can communicate and define the position, FR is the perfect place to practice the freedom of speech. This free speach is, of course, limited by the JR Ltd foundation. However, I've never seen JR show fear of any idea or any discussion (unless the discussion is not civil). So wats up wit dat???

Local people wont like the slick ACLU atty's coming in and treating them as if they are stupid and cant make decisions for their children. Whether the plaintiffs win/lose its a minority that cant accept the evo criticism. The trend is on...the majority of people want clarity and common sense brought into the classroom.

I aint a scientist. I think youre jumping to conclusions.

Also, if you think my profile page advocates for this view:
If WC thinks ID is a cancer on conservatism, I'd like to hear that point of view, because I don't like backing a loser.

I'd better update it with more clarity.

Evolutionists are so afraid of opposition that they cannot allow an opposing view. So much for diversity!

The theory of evolution is nothing more than fish stockings. Will not hold water.

NO. WC seems to be quoting the posts of others. I believe he runs the Revelation 4:11/ ID poing list, which I don't join because I generally try to stay as far away from crevo threads as possible.:)
