Jewish Defense League Member Sentenced (LA Mosque Bomb Plot)

LOS ANGELES - A Jewish Defense League member was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison for his role in a plot to bomb a mosque and a Lebanese-American congressman's office.

During the hearing, Earl Krugel, 62, apologized and said he was a changed man.

But U.S. District Judge Ronald S.W. Lew described Krugel's actions as "promoting hatred in the most vile way" and sentenced him to the maximum under Krugel's plea agreement. Lew said Krugel had failed a polygraph test five times during the investigation.

"You are not that changed a person. You have more to give," the judge said.

Krugel pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate the civil rights of worshippers at Culver City's King Fahd Mosque and one count of carrying an explosive device in connection with a conspiracy to impede or injure Republican U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa (news, bio, voting record).

Krugel, a dental assistant, and the late JDL leader Irv Rubin were arrested in 2001. Hours before they were to appear in court in 2002, Rubin slashed his neck with a razor blade and tumbled 18 feet over a railing at a federal detention center. He died nine days later.

After Rubin's death, Krugel struck the plea deal.

The Jewish Defense League was founded in 1968 by Rabbi Meir Kahane. Kahane advocated the forcible removal of Arabs from Israel. He was assassinated in 1990 in New York.

You cannot discriminate between a jew and a muslim if both are planning to kill innocent people. A terrorist is a terrorist.

The innocence of any Muslim can be easily and substantially disputed.

Exactly, but expect dozens of moronic defenses of this would-be terrorist because his intended victims aren't popular.

But he was a Christian, and to some of the haters here, that is reason enough for him (and his staff) to be murdered.

I haven't seen this many terrorist lovers since the last IRA thread.

....assasinated by a guy who was let out of jail and later participated in the 1993 WTC bombing.

They were actually caught in a sting operation...

...the explosives were delivered by the FBI Informant with a criminal record of his own.

Krugel was convicted on conspiracy and weapons charges... not attempted murder.

Poor bastard. Set up like a bowling pin.

They probably showed him some pictures of Irv Rubin with his throat slit so Krugel would agree to this deal.

..........................................

The fact that he pled guilty makes the fact that he may have been set up irrelevant. Hope he gets a nice roomate.

"But he was a Christian, and to some of the haters here, that is reason enough for him (and his staff) to be murdered."

First, let me say that I am no proponent of extra-judicial killing, and am a proponent of the rule of law.

That said, let me ask you... Is Darrel Issa your kind of Christian?

"I have a great deal of sympathy for the work that Hezbollah tries to do." - Darrel Issa

Darrel Issa also called Yassir Arafat "a charismatic individual, despite being a very small man and very old. He gives you food off his plate if you sit next to him."

"Hezbollah or any other party has the right to resist occupation." - Darrel Issa

Darrel Issa also called Yassir Arafat "a charismatic individual, despite being a very small man and very old. He gives you food off his plate if you sit next to him."

On Oct. 31, 2001, the London Arabic newspaper, Al-Hayat, reported, "U.S. Congressman of Lebanese origin Darrell Issa, during his recent visit to Beirut in the mid of October," conveyed a proposal to Hezbollah leadership to remove Hezbollah from the State Department’s terrorist list and "normalize U.S. relations with" the group. Hezbollah refused the offer.

Hezbollah refused the offer.

Days after Sept. 11, Issa, during his House International Relations Committee’s discussion of fighting terrorism, tried to draw a distinction between "Palestinian groups that are resisting Israeli occupation" and Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.

The Reform Party of Syria said Issa "helps Syria with [its] propaganda campaign" and "objects to Mr. Issa’s presence in Syria. The Baath Party of Syria is duping Rep. Issa and using him as a propaganda tool."

Issa hosted a pro-Syrian Capitol Hill event with a pro-Syrian Arab business group. The event was organized by former staffers to Reps. David "Baghdad" Bonior and John Dingell, who now lobby for a "change" to U.S. Middle East policy

After the Iraq War, during one of several frequent Syrian trips, Issa praised Assad, saying, "His word seems to be good."

No, but I wouldn't use our theological differences to justify a terrorist murderer. I say put the terrorist in Gitmo, where the current menu should well accomodate any Kosher needs he might have.
