Donna Brazile: I Will Rebuild With You, Mr. President (must read)

I Will Rebuild With You, Mr. President

By Donna Brazile

On Thursday night President Bush spoke to the nation from my city. I am not a Republican. I did not vote for George W. Bush -- in fact, I worked pretty hard against him in 2000 and 2004. But on Thursday night, after watching him speak from the heart, I could not have been prouder of the president and the plan he outlined to empower those who lost everything and to rebuild the Gulf Coast...

I know, maybe better than anyone, that there are times when it seems that our nation is too divided ever to heal. There are times when we feel so different from each other that we can hardly believe that we are all part of the same family. But we are one nation. We are a family. And this is what we do. When the president asked us to pitch in Thursday night, he wasn't really asking us to do anything spectacular. He was asking us to be Americans, and to do what Americans always do...

Mr. President, I am ready for duty. I am ready to stir those old pots again. Let's roll up our sleeves and get to work.

The writer, a Democratic political consultant, managed Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign.

Please don't get me wrong here. I have read and heard a lot this woman has said and written. Most I do not agree with but it is well written and reasoned. Two reasonable minds could disagree with her writings. A few things she has said or written are quite, lets say, divisive. But there are many things she has said or written that seem to be VERY FAR from the normal Democrat talking points. I would not hesitate to say, that she personally, is a moderate Democrat in the vein of Joe Lieberman. I feel she is more moderate that Hillary. Do a few searches and see for yourself.

I am convinced that this piece from her is genuine.

If I recall correctly, she came out publicly in favor of the president before (maybe after 9-11, appointment of Condi Rice, Colin Powell, ???).

And I was surprised then that she didn't have the typical Democratic vitriol in her words.

MOST of Donna's family are on WELFARE!! She said so. Sickening...she's a very powerful successful woman and she couldn't help her faily get off of welfare? What is she going to do for others?? I'll believe it when I see it...color me skeptical.

...The DNC must have taken a poll on their response....

I think you are correct. The overnight change from the mayor, the governor, the talking heads and Dem politicos is just a bit too "Dramatic".
The stupid MSM is still kissing Farakan's butt but they'll read the memo soon.

What else can we do?

How about teaching these people to be INDEPENDENT, the government is NOT supposed to take care of people from cradle to crave, what happened to being responsible for ourselves? Most of these people have the entitlement attitude, the government owes them, it's the governments fault, put my hand out and I shall receive, Bush played right into their hands. Help them to a point then teach them how to help themselves, don't continue to coddle them.

Something funny is going on and I am not too sure what it is. Did the Democrats and media overstep and now are trying to move back into the main stream?

See Miss Marple's post at #12. I think that is about it. All these lessons that the left has learned will go right out the window when the next Supreme Court justice nominee is named.

Hmmm...trust but verify. Regardless of the money hook- she seems sincere to me. She COULD have expressed her support of the president's plan without being nice.

I think she may be having an American First moment...(last word is key). Let's hope sensible libs (trying to think who they might be) take her lead and focus on the solution.

We'll see...

Democrats like the speech more and more as they are beginning to realize that George Bush made the case for African-American reparations across the board when he gave his speech the other day.

''As all of us saw on television, there is also some deep, persistent poverty in this region as well. And that poverty has roots in a history of racial discrimination, which cut off generations from the opportunity of America. We have a duty to confront this poverty with bold action."

There was no other purpose for Bush to say this except to justify giving away money in a manner that would otherwise not be justifiable.

Blacks all over the country now have a basis for demanding the same reparations that Bush wants to give blacks in New Orleans.

Well they say the DumRat PtB are the ones that are "divided" at this point. The last couple times i've heard Brazile speak she sounded like she belonged to the less lefty side of the party.

I don't see or hear her much so this could be a misconception. I'm usually pretty cynical.....

Not sure on this one. Brazile neglected to help her own family evacuate from New Orleans. She has a mentally impaired sister in a group home that she did not see too, along with, I believe, her father, and other members of her family. She did not see to it that they were safe, despite the fact that she has adequate resources to do so. The rebuilding will directly benefit her own family. She certainly cannot look to Nagin, Blanco or Landrieu for assistance.

Madonnadonnadonna was speaking to the wrong audience. Her remarks should have been directed by name to Jesse Jackson, Howard Dean, Calypso Louie, Al Sharpton, Hitlery Clinton and other lefties promoting the national division.

C'mon, peeples, she's blowin' in the wind for the benefit of the good but naive folk in the politically uneducated populace.

A rabid socialist consultant never changes her spits.

Too bad there are those who are unwilling to see the President a man of character and heart, doing the right thing without regard for the 'elites' on BOTH sides.

Retranslation: Bush sounds more and more like adem every day.

Well, the money is going to be spent no matter what, even if Reagan or Coolidge was President.

IMO, Bush is not going to disburse the money the same-old big government way. There'll probably be lots of checks and balances, and less of it going to special interest groups and bureaucracies. This'll probably fit into Bush's "Ownership Society" vision.

I said probably because I'm skeptical of Bush too.

Ms Brazile is looking to get in on the pork!

I distrust her so much - she "got out the vote" for Mary Landrieu in 2004 - and thought she had got out [sufficient] votes in Florida in 2000 - that I believe she was advising Gov Blank-o not to allow the feds in.

If Ms Brazile really loves NOLA then why was she complicit in allowing the corruption to cripple her neighbors?

PS: I just heard Governor Ehrlich, R-MD, report that crybaby Broussard phoned him to thank him and the citizens of MD for saving the Parish of St Bernard.

They are all in SERIOUS CYA mode now!!!!

I'm not liking Bush's attitude towards this Katrina thing, he's becoming an enabler.

That's nonsense.

It's an opportunity to give people who experienced generations of welfare payments to feel like "normal" citizens by putting them to work in the reconstruction of the Gulf.

The DNC knows that if the black american won't do it, the hispanic...illegal or otherwise will be there every morning.

The Democratic elite are cornered.

I remember how Democrats were mad at Brazille when she said how proud she was of Condi Rice achieving success as a black woman becoming Secretary of State. She spoke movingly of how tears welled in her eyes when Condi was sworn in.

This tells me that Donna Brazille can put aside partisanship from time to time. I believe her for this incident.

As I see it, Bush has proposed an expensive solution, nevertheless a viable solution to cure a set of social ills that the Dems would never consider. Why cure a problem when you can blame the Republicans and collect votes. But perhaps Donna B., for all her vitrol, values her neighbos and family over her hate and partisanship

That being said, GWB should still sleep with one eye open.

Hey, it's not Donna's responsibility to help her relatives. That's why we have welfare--it's the taxpayers' job.

I'm reminded of the French newspaper which right after 9/11 had a sympathetic headline (along the lines of "We're all Americans now") but then quickly went back to their usual America-bashing. By making this statement now, Brazile will find it easier to find fault later with how the Bush proposals work.

She liked the give away part. What I gleaned from the speech however was a twist on the old give a man a fish thing. Bush says he's gonna give them folks plenty of fish to get them by for awhile, but he's gonna make them learn to catch their own also, instead of just waiting for the first of the month like the great society had them doing.

I think if you take the time to go back and check out some of the other things Donna has said in the last year or so, you will find that she has been leaning this direction.

I'm only surprised she has gone public with it. Check out Rush's website - he has an article by Fineman exposing the KOOK LEFT's power over the dems and how it's transforming the dem party - negatively - which Rush has been exposing for quite some time.

Knowing that .. I believe Donna can see the writing on the wall .. the democrats are going to take a GREAT BIG HIT in Louisana .. and from the comments which ABC so thoughtfully supplied for the public .. Bob Beckel is wrong AGAIN that the "repubs have destroyed all their hard work within the black community".

While I'm probably cynical enough to believe Donna is just doing this to save herself .. and keep herself free from an association with the KOOK LEFT .. she is a very influencial black person and could actually help the repubs.
