1 The fundamental problem is not just Islam but religion itself, which is superstition, false consciousness, the abrogation of reason. In principle, Christianity or Judaism are little better, particularly in the versions embraced by the American right.

There are no modern countries populated by a Christian majority that support terrorists. Christian countries are for the most part more tolerant, compassionate, and helpful to other countries than their non-Christian counterparts.

The problem with Muslim countries is that Islam is an easy horse to ride to absolute power. And the powerful and corrupt are drawn to whatever horse that works in any given culture. Countries in the ME that don't have enough oil money to prop up stupid extreme ideas don't have the problems with Islam that oil rich countries have.

There are so many obvious holes in what this guy is saying, its impossible to select where to start.

I can't recall reading ANYWHERE where Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, Jews, Zoroastrians or Shintos, for instance, are trying to convert anybody by force at present, or even impose their own religious beliefs on nonbelievers.

Most terrorists today are Muslims, and although most Muslims are not terrorists, there is a silent approval by most Muslims of the actions of these lunatics and an unwillingness to condemn them in the Islamic community, except under the most qualified of terms.

If such actions were being carried on today by Christians, there is little doubt the perpetrators would be roundly condemned by clergymen and told in no uncertain terms that such actions would lead to eternal damnation.

Such condemnations are not forthcoming from the Islamic religious community. On the contrary, most mullahs, etc. openly or clandestinely encourage and approve of such actions.
