NEA teaches a lesson in exclusion
The Washington Times ^ | 9-12-05 | Kate Tsubata

I was surprised to read that the National Education Association passed a resolution at its recent Los Angeles convention to exclude home-schoolers from participation in extracurricular activities in public schools. The article I read went on to say that the NEA opposes parents home schooling their children unless they are state-licensed teachers and use a state-approved curriculum. Naturally, I found this quite unbelievable. Considering the high scores posted by home-schoolers on nationwide tests, the stellar achievements of home-schoolers on nationwide academic competitions, and the accomplishments of home-schoolers in college and the work force, I would have assumed that those interested in improving the educational results for our children would be intrigued, at the very least, by what home-schoolers are doing to get such wonderful results.

They let their janitor write an anti-homeschool diatribe?

"They let their janitor write an anti-homeschool diatribe?"

You would think they might leave this -- the writing of opinions that could shape children's minds, careers and futures -- to trained professionals ... who have worked steadily at their profession for 10, 20, 30 years! Teachers!

If she was really surprised, then she's not very bright.

these parents are creating social misfits
LOL!!!!
THIS is laughable! The NEA can't stand it.
Home schooled children are the most well rounded academic achievers on the planet. Unfortunately we can't homeschool but nearly all my friends do. Their children are quite comfortable carrying on an intelligent conversation in a room full of adults. Equally at home on the playground, displaying respect for others along with good sportsmanship.
I wish all children could get outside the big government nanny's influence. The world - and out nation in particular, would be a much better place.

The Teacher's Union in California tried to get a bill passed requiring all student athletes to sign a pledge that they are "accepting" of the homosexual life style in order to play intermural sports. Since most home schoolers are Christians, this is a back door way for the Union to exclude them.

Pssst... Janitors are the only NEA members who know how to read & write!

Our neighbor Mississippi, tried a back door ban on homeschooling a couple of years ago. I don't know all the details, but it barely failed because the proceedings were so secret.

Do you suppose that Mr. Jzelle actually thinks the NEA is concerned with improving anybody's education results?

That assumption is 100% correct.

But if you think that TEACHERS are "those interested in improving the educational results", you are mistaken.

Why are you surprised?

The NEA is about themselves -- securing their exclusive right to gorge at the union-protected trough. Are we to believe that article in praise of NEA teachers was actually written by the custodian -- rather than by the union lobbyist who told a custodian to sign it? And if the custodian can write better than most of the teachers, why is he the custodian -- and not teaching or the principle, instead of all those lazy, bloated union teaches on permanent disability status because they are so ineffective they cannot return to the classrooms for fear the students will taunt them unmercifully.

The whole situation is not credible. The general public is not as gullible as a class of first graders, who are intimidated and impressed by this level of transparent manipulation and deception. Most of these NEA teachers have nothing going for them but their "seniority."

Just further confirmation that the NEA is more of a union than a professional association. Also, shows that they place their own self interest ahead of the kids'. Sad.

Here in Hawaii, as elsewhere, people pay a huge premium not to be taught by NEA teachers.

What do they have to teach? -- but entitlement, envy, resentment, bitterness, cherished union values of getting something for nothing, deception, manipulation. You don't get that bloated look unless you've been floating dead in New Orleans for several days -- or have been gorging unconscionably at the union trough.

I wish these people would "teach" that it is possible to win without lying, cheating and stealing. Otherwise, all these kids will grow up to be "liberals" -- just like them.

What is truly sad, and the bane of this country, is that the most self-serving unions, are those entrusted with communicating information to the public -- the media, schools and universities.

In every Master Plan for the betterment of society, they always place themselves at the top of the hierarchy and packing order, with all the spoils, and then spend all their time convincing everybody else they are truly deserving of that privilege as their rightful entitlement.
