Rev. Peterson: Government Dependency and Lack of Moral Character To Blame for Hurricane Disaster

ARE BLACKS TO BLAME FOR NEW ORLEANS DISASTER? Rev. Peterson Says President Bush And Racism Not To Blame

Los Angeles- Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, founder and president of BOND, the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny today harshly criticized Black elected officials and celebrities who claimed that President George W. Bush is responsible for the tragic death of thousands of mostly Black residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

“This is a terrible situation and we need to have compassion. The truth is Black people died not because of President Bush or racism, they died because of their unhealthy dependence on the government and the incompetence of Mayor Ray Nagin and Governor Kathleen Blanco,” said Rev. Peterson.

Rev. Jesse Jackson, members of The Congressional Black Caucus, and rapper Kanye West all blamed the President for not doing enough to help Blacks. Jackson called the President’s response “incompetent” and charged that racism is partly to blame for the slow evacuation of survivors after Hurricane Katrina. During a nationally televised live fundraising event on NBC West ranted, “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people.”

Rev. Peterson said, “If Black folks want to blame someone for this tragedy they only need to look in the mirror. Mayor Nagin has blamed everyone else except himself. The Mayor failed in his duty to evacuate and protect the people of New Orleans. Our prayers go out to the families of the deceased. Hopefully this will help Black people realize the folly of depending on the government or leaders and serve as a notice to avert future tragedies in other cities.”

Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson is the author of the book SCAM: How The Black Leadership Exploits Black America, which is soon to be issued in paperback. For media inquiries, please contact Ermias Alemayehu at 323-782-1980, Cell 213-804-1872. For more information visit www.bondinfo.org

Always a voice of reason. I love this man and wish him well. I'm sure the MSM will have this quote on all the stories tonight.

Here's an encouraging report, which I posted to another thread earlier today:

I just heard a great soundbite on Tulsa news TV tonight, from an older black man, who had fled the storm early and came to his brother's house in Tulsa. Through some clever networking, the man found a job within two days, and began working. Here's the money-line: "It's good to be working, to be somewhat independent, you know. Not to be, you know, (he pauses briefly to find the right word) a liability."

NOT TO BE A LIABILITY. What a man. What an American. I wish he were contagious.

Well that's it, he's officially excommunicated from the mainstream black community, now isn't he?

Very well said.

Yes he is. A voice of reason in the wilderness. Jesse Jackson's thugs try to intimidate Jesse Lee Peterson constantly. A good man working hard to teach young people personal responsibility.

Finally! Someone who tells it like it is! If you depend on the government for *anything* you're going to be disappointed.

I like Peterson and send him $$$ sometimes. He pretty much said it all in one sentence.

Rev. Peterson spoke at the university where I attend school earlier this week. I was very upset that I couldn't attend the event.

I'd be interested in Bill Cosby's take on all of this. It's interesting to me that the back lash of the truth comes usually from well-to-do blacks like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and the Million Dollar Rappers looking for TV time on the MSM.

I have NEVER heard a "Thank You" from any of these Americans to all the volunteers who have given time, money and personal sacrifice to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina or other natural disasters.

These "leaders" are the sames ones that take change out of the collection plate, and usually it's more than what they put in, IMHO.
