Amen to that! I agree 100%! If they had show the real carnage, people would be supporting our troops now, instead of low-lifes like Cindy Sheehan.

The bodies should be shown so that the country can get a grasp of the situation. Hiding the truth only hurts us in the end.

I stated in another post that I personally experienced total loss (big fire in S.F. Bay area a dozen years ago) so I'm probably one of only a few here that have been through a total loss. Try to stay calm, because these first couple of weeks are the worst in terms of craziness. I think it's just raw survival instinct and it is a terrible, terrible thing to go through. You are probably already seeing people at their worst - frightening and unexpected, to say the least. Our prayers are with you.
Shephard is from that area, and I think it's getting to him. They ought to drag him away and let him recover.
I think Shep had a reality check from the "N.O. dodge the bullet" chant he began, too early on.....and I think he's even feeling bad about that....since that ridiculous comment he made in haste...I think he's be doing nothing but trying to help somehow....asking every person who emerged from the waters, "are you okay" first question out of his mouth....trying to get help for people...flagging down police officer for that mom and newborn baby (5 day old) yesterday...a sick 3 year old boy....he's trying to make everyone else wake up....like he did...imho.
I might get flamed for this but Peter Jennings was the best at reporting live ongoing trauamtic events.
I think you're right. Levinthal is excellent. He may not have the knack for turning a phrase as Shep does, but then again, he doesn't put as much personal opinion into in as Shep does. But just the same, he really gets the good stories, facts and all, and keeps his composure at the same time. Both guys seem to be among the more sincere reporters out there.
Both guys have their strengths. Levinthal's a lot cuter tho. Shep looks too much like a chick.
I know this'll piss off a lot of Freepers but i also find Aaron Brown to be sincere. I know. I know. But that's the feel i get from him.

Thank you. I just spoke with a southern CA friend and she said that people really do not realize the scope of our situation down here. Perhaps Shep showing dead bodies will shake them. I think he deserves an award for his reporting on the 110 interstate yesterday.
I saw it at lunch. Sheppard was quite excited to show the footage of the poor soul who died and was left on the road.
It could be argued that the reality of this needs to be driven home to the rest of us.
Sheppard's handling of the situation was clumsy, and without grace. I have no respect for the man.
I think Shep is using his position to call attention to the situation around him. Yesterday he got help for two families that had little babies distressed from the heat. He's alright IMHO.
It IS shameful -- I'm not proud of our response at all, and what about its implications in another terrorist strike? this is 4 years after 9/11 - good grief
And it seems to me that the folks in the tsunami got quicker relief than our own people! How hard is it to drop some damn water bottles already?? Are we a SuperPower or aren't we?
That's a good point- leaving now would be a disaster.
It will take time for people, even on this board to fully grasp the magnitude of this disaster, and how utterly unprepared we were on all levels, local, state, and federal.

no...this police officer didn't even say a word to Shep...he just was walking away....as Shep kept walking after him...no swear words or words of frustration made by Shep to the police officer...you may have seen another tape with another officer....maybe Shep, by that time, was getting p.o.'d....
He said that citizens were telling him that their questions were also being ignored by the police....or, that the police didn't know where to tell them to go....or they kept being given wrong places to go, cause nobody really knew where they should go.
Yeah, 'back in the day' things were different. FR was a bit more well informed and thoughful. Now the signal to noise ratio is outrageous. Popularity has its price.
But it is still the best collection of news at one site that I know of.
And Shepard Smith is doing something while all his detractors sit on their fannies and fuss.
They ought to be ashamed.
