URL of Map of Damage by Street - Marker's telling of damage in the Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia

Instructions

ZOOM IN! (The default zoom is far out to let people most easily get to the area they are interested in; the map will be very hard to use unless you first zoom in using the slider on the map). To add a new marker with information, first navigate the map to find the location you wish to mark (you can move the map by dragging it, you can zoom in and out, etc.). Put the information about that area into the "Text to add:" textbox, then click on "Add marker", and click on the map where you want the marker to go.

Although the marker indicates the location of your entry, please note that it is often useful to include identifying information about the location when you post storm/flood information, especially in cases which refer to general areas. Consider what would be most useful for people looking at your information.

Note: Please do NOT add markers that ASK for information, only add markers that PROVIDE information.

This is so that this map remains uncluttered and useful for those needing the information.

Note to the person/people who are making markers with text like "City Park" or just addresses with no information: Please stop. The page takes a long time to load because there are lots of markers on the map. The map is *a map* and has that sort of information on it already; markers are not needed. Thank you.

If you can't see the marker you just added, reload this page.

Text to add:

I want to thank Greg Stoll for putting this together really quickly for me. You can check out his site at www.gregstoll.com.

If you click on the link it will take you to a map where folks are givng tags to items to help other's know of damage in the area.

It is a neat idea.

This is such a wonderful tool!

I just sent it to a friend who is waiting to find out about going back to Mobile Alabama to see how his house made it (or didn't) through the storm!

On his behalf - THANK YOU!

You are quite welcome. Google has excellent maps as well. They do not seem to be updated after the storm when you look at the sat images but still when you hear a name on the news you can put it in there and you can get an idea of the land. You can focus onto a home.

Again helpful if it were updated, I am hoping soon.

Are there any current satellite maps that show the flooding? Are there any dry areas in the city? Thanks.

Oh wow - again - on behalf of my friend, many MANY thanks!!

Poor guy has bitten his nails to nothing and has barely been able to stand not knowing, not being able to go, not being able to DO.

This will help him keep in touch - can't thank you enough.

We used Google Maps to help orient us to the terrain so we could zero in on FMC's families' addresses to check out damage in their areas. At least the satellite shot doesn't look too bad for them.

Some of the pics from the website load with a 90 degree tilt, so North is pointing East or West. You can use a picture editor to turn it the right way & then drill down.
